On that note, perhaps the most useful thing I learned at Firefighter School is that you shouldn't breathe in any kind of smoke under any circumstances, particularly if it's from anything manufactured in modern times. Most smoke contains godawful carcinogenic crap, and some of the stuff that comes off of burning synthetic fabrics/plastic/building materials/poorly-made weed devices/etc is pretty much guaranteed to give you cancer down the road, thanks to all those mysterious little unnatural molecules of polymethylbrominated whatever that stick down in the bottom of your lungs and never come out. When we do what's called "overhaul", where we kind of comb through the smoking ruins long after the fire is out, we're now required to be on air tanks the entire time, thanks to the lessons learned from the astronomically high cancer rates of the previous generation of firefighters.
For reals, kids, no smoke ever. Just thought I'd share.
