Old_Zircon - 2013-05-24 The Matrix is where I draw the line as far as big budget movies having any potential for being watchable at all. Nearly everything since then has looked like a Blizzard cutscene, except with stiffer acting.

Old_Zircon - 2013-05-24 I just saw the new Peter Jackson Hobbit movie this week; I gather that studios have finally given up on the possibility of CGI looking even vaguely lifelike and are now opting to make the few remaining actors, sets, props and practical special effects look like CGI in post? It's better than the way things were up until a couple years ago I suppose, at least everything looks like it's happening in the same plane now. But it sure is clunky still.

You did see the tiger in life of pi I presume...not sure where you get off calling that "clunky".

Old_Zircon - 2013-05-24 I didn't see that, but CGI just doesn't sit well with live actors for me. No matter how good the graphics get, they just kind of stick out, and the human acting really suffers.
CGI can be really cool but the way it's used in mainstream cinema is usually just bland and uninspired by my reckoning, and people just don't act opposite a ball on a stick very well.
