He showed a still from Jesus Camp which was infinitely more terrifying than anything Satanic Ive seen.

There is deist Satanism, Laveyian Satanism and Anti-cosmic Luciferianism and they are all stupid and I have a feeling if Christians didnt look down on these ideals so much and kids werent so edgy, it wouldnt be a big deal for anybody.

There is a hilarious documentary called Satanis the Devil's Mass, about LaVey. He comes off as a hybrid nerd/meathead-bro/D&D enthusiast who likes to hang out with people and be weird. The documentary interviews his neighbors all through it and they are awesome. They find him weird, amusing, sometimes annoying, and pretty much harmless. Everyday people pretty much saw him as an almost, but not quite, everyday person. He had very little actual influence over anyone, even his offspring, beyond just being fun.

It took people who never met him to make him truly infamous.

I have Satanis on DVD. If the Catholic church was ever going to have a patron saint of trolls, LaVey would be a strong competitor. Some of his followers were pretty awful, though (specifically the creepy, middle aged lady who proudly talks about giving her teenage son hands-on masturbation lessons).

But yeah, he explicitly says that he is an atheist and they chose the term "satanism" for their hedonistic nerd commune to piss people off.
