another candidate for 'unwatchable schlock' tag though granted this was the best bit

Wrong use of the word.

This movie excels in in places so many other movies don't even try. It knows what it wants to do and does exactly that, and at it's best it is incredibly disturbing. That isn't schlock. Maybe its not your thing, but it isn't schlock.

I was unbelievably high when I saw this and it was one of the best cinematic experiences of my life.

I watched it later and not high. As a choice, the film is punitively slow, which gets tiresome but I endured it because of the compelling, character based use of ambiguity and second to none production design, cinematog and score unity. It reminded me of Polanski's Repulsion and when Danny Boyle is at his finest.

The ending is terrible.

But for the cunning (and sorta new) portrayal of telepathy as a painful, even orgasmic experience, for the deeply tormented and sadistic mystery that was Dr. Nyles, for the stunning shot composition and direction of photography and for the incredible soundtrack that has been a big backdrop to my work for the past two months
I can overlook this film's frustrating choices and be glad it exists.

schlock usually makes money.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^this. All of it.

WHO WANTS DESSERT - 2013-05-28

All this movie had going for it were the visuals, and half of them were directly lifted from other, better movies.

Riskbreaker - 2013-05-28

Nope, i was also thinking this was going to be something in that vein. Even with the 2001 similarities, there are some terrific sequences that i haven't seen anywhere else. Those sentinoants still freak me out.

I liked BTBR. It was like like cowboy bebop: very silly but always super-cool and entertaining.
I had a hunch what it would be like and was expecting a film length music video. I was pleased with what I got and the music (and ambient sound) is fuckin' excellent throughout.

I really enjoyed this....I don't care if it borrowed shit really, I mean no one is truly original. But it was a good movie...a nice artistic approach to weird sci-fi. Not for everyday viewing....

Okay, I really don't remember watching this... but after talking to my friend I'm assured that I did.

Is this the movie where the guy has to escape from the building?

Dumb Lamer - 2013-05-29

I have to keep reminding myself that about a year ago I posted on POETV just how boring and dull this movie was. The fact that I keep wanting to re-watch its clips on this site must mean something. Guess that earns 5 stars.

This is not at all a perfect movie, but, it's got ATMOSPHERE, folks. It's harder to pull that off than it looks.

Nikon - 2013-05-29

This movie is not perfect, but it sustains a great mood and has some excellent music throughout the whole of it. I was entertained by it.

Riskbreaker - 2013-05-29

Aside from the rather anti-climatic ending, i think the rest of the movie is perfect in the way it creates a surreal sci-fi atmosphere. That's not something easy to pull, it requires a sense of movie making that not many directors have. Very much looking foward to other movies from Panos Cosmatos, plus, the guy has a pretty cool sounding name.

I came here to see people who've seen the movie give it the credit it deserves. Thanks. Also great reviews.
