Mr. Purple Cat Esq.
So many fetishes in one video
Mr. Purple Cat Esq.
Also please remove 'LEGOS' tag
That is NOT THE FUCKING PLURAL OF THAT WORD!!!

drcrypt
Why? Because a Danish marketing department has convinced you that there's an entirely separate set of pluralization rules unique to the small plastic bricks you played with as a child?

Mr. Purple Cat Esq.
Its not a separate set of rules.
'Lego' is simply a mass noun. A very general subset of nouns.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mass_noun

You refer to individual units as 'pieces of Lego' or 'bricks' and whatnot.
Like drops or Litres of water. You dont say 'waters' when referring to multiple drops of water.

I know what a mass noun is, but you're missing the point: LEGO is a mass noun because a marketing department is trying to tell you it is, not because the English-speaking population as a whole has decided it. And if you need proof of that, look no further than the fact that most English-speakers refer to legos and not plural-and-all-caps LEGO. The only reason LEGO fans get so uppity about it (but not, say, butt hurt when someone says "meats" instead of meat) is because the same marketing department has convinced them to. Without that, everyone would have settled into calling them Legos long ago.

Mr. Purple Cat Esq.
Yes, that is a valid way of looking at it. But we could have also all settled on calling them "smorbky shorbly glorbiy" a long time ago.
When you make something new you get the opportunity to name it. the LEGO company chose a mass noun. I dont think this is unreasonable of them as it is such a basic distinction. If you are coining a new noun you must pick one or the other.

I have no idea about " the fact most English-speakers refer to legos" I'd be suprised if theres any data on that very esoteric* of distinctions.
My impression is that in great Britain and europe we use lego as a mass noun (in other languages too) and in the US they use it (technically improperly!) as a normal noun.
So from my perspective its another example of the yanks wantonly misusing the language.

*Sort of enjoying a debate on such a silly and obscure thing tho :)

It's fucking toy bricks. Nobody cares. The Lego company can gargle my nutsack. They didn't invent shit. Lego was the name of the company, long before their popular line of plastic interlocking bricks came out. They stole the idea from KiddiCraft.

Wikipedia, bitch. Educate yourself.
