It looks like it's going to be a riff on SPACE ADVENTURE COBRA (perhaps best known in the United States as the anime used in Matthew Sweet's "Girlfriend" video, though I dunno if anyone much younger than 35 even remembers that).

They overplayed that video (back when cable channels used to play videos) so much I think it got burned into some viewers' DNA.

I really don't get why it and "Life is a Highway" got so popular compared to other songs from the same era, save for perhaps the second one was an easy-to-use tune for any movies that feature cars.

You should watch the previously mentioned Space Adventure Cobra. I only watched the old movies, but they were satisfyingly gritty. He has a robot sidekick, but it's a cool fembot.

So, from a perspective of three years after this trailer, and almost 2 years after SPACE DANDY finished airing in Japan, whaddya all think of SPACE DANDY?

Success or failure, specifically as the heir to COWBOY BEBOP... did SPACE DANDY successfully re-stoke that space adventure flame, or will it always be an also-ran lost in the long shadow of its 16-year-older brother?

Personally, I actually enjoyed SPACE DANDY more than most of COWBOY BEBOP, but I recognize why that's a minority opinion. I just was never that into the more serious episodes of BEBOP and a series like BEBOP that was almost entirely a comedy was going to be more my bag anyway.
