Even at its prime, people had to know how silly laserdiscs looked, right? I mean... come on.
|
Nikon - 2013-09-14 Some of the box art on laserdiscs looked quite nice.
The store in this commercial looked awesome.
|
sasazuka - 2013-09-14 Laserdiscs were awesome, analogue video still looked better than the compression on some lesser-quality DVDs, and I love how big they were.
Also, for us anime fans, Laserdisc was usually the only format we could buy import anime on, since most anime on VHS in Japan was made primarily for rental and wasn't priced-to-own.

These guys are awesome. I've just been introduced to them and am sad to hear they shut down. At the same time I've been overjoyed with every Blockbuster that shut down.

Was this commercial actually made in the mid-2000s? At the end, you can see someone holding a SEINFELD DVD set, those things didn't even exist until, I believe, 2004.
I don't doubt that it's a real commercial for a real business, but it seems to be tongue-in-cheek retro, made in the middle of the DVD era.

THA SUGAH RAIN - 2013-09-15 That is indeed the season 1 & 2 dvd set (2004). And google street view confirms that this is/was an all too real place in the physical universe.
