Posted mostly because of all the idjits on the Internet who watched this and said, "finally, Walt cuts loose and tells Skyler what he really thinks of her".

Here's the part that breaks my heart: as far as Walt knows, this is the last time Walt will ever be able to talk to Skyler, and he can't even say that he loves her. Instead he has to spew the most hateful invective, and he can't even say "goodbye" at the end lest he betray some measure of affection.

Yeah, as I was first watching this I kept thinking "This is a little on the nose" until it hit me a few minutes later. This is one of the most heartbreaking moments in an episode full of them.

One thing, though: You might wanna change your description to make it a little less spoiler-y. I made the same mistake when I posted the mass prison shankings and people rightfully complained.

Not sure that I'm spoiling much in the description, but what should I change it to?

This posting of classic TV clips in the Classic TV Clips category goes against everything the Founders stood for!

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2013-09-22

I feel the same way about Gamecenter an anime submissions.

Jack Dalton - 2013-09-22

I love this show-- and this episode ranks among the finest. But at this point you might as well post entire episodes because each scene is literally being posted here.

Pillager - 2013-09-22

It's amazing. A Mafia Capo with mommy issues, a serial killer vigilante , & a terminally ill meth dealer are portrayed as nuanced, sympathetic characters.

What's next? A show about kiddie porn producer or day to day life in a neo-nazi compound?

EvilHomer - 2013-09-22

God willing.

William Topaz McGonagall - 2013-09-22

Yeah, we should never ever think of criminals as human beings, they are criminals, and thus we cannot try to understand what drives them to do what they do. Only criminals sympathize with criminals. If you grant that criminals can be anything other than mustache-twirling supervillains, what's next? Child porn!? Not in my America!

Pillager - 2013-09-22

I wasn't complaining. I just never thought I'd see a Mafia hit man I'd feel sorry for.

EvilHomer - 2013-09-22

What about 47?

cognitivedissonance - 2013-09-22

A MODERN STONE-AGE FAM-I-LY?!!

CJH - 2013-09-22

lol at all the dumb people who watched this and couldn't tell what was really going on, it's so obvious that i thought you'd have to be some stereotypical misogynistic walt fanboy to miss it but the internet is rife with dummies of all stripes not getting this scene

also don't watch this, cranston's acting deserves more than 360p what is this fucking 2004

Sexy Duck Cop - 2013-09-22

I'm not crazy about Skyler either, but holy shit I've run into full-blown sociopaths online who not only think his wife doesn't appreciate him, but that Walt is a hero. Their logic usually relies on two premises:

1) That Walt only kills drug dealers and users, both of whom are the scum of the earth and deserve to die.

2) Walt is a drug dealer, which is a victimless crime that shouldn't be punished.

Links to dummies would be appreciated

Vince Gilligan has expressed surprise that people are still on Walt's side. Sure, write a show for five seasons that paints a morally-compromised person in a sympathetic light, and it comes as a surprise that people are still rooting for him on some level? Come on Gilligan, you're smarter than that.

That said, you are missing the point if you root for Walt just in terms of him getting his way, while failing to notice how he's not the man you could originally get behind.

(And that's where I say the bulk of the Skyler hate comes from -- whatever morally questionable things Walt is trying to do, the show is written "in his corner", and Skyler just slows him down like a muffler dragging behind an AMC Pacer. The problem is that people take it too far, even to the point of wishing ill upon Anna Gunn.)

There are so many perspectives this whole story could be told from that would still work. Lifetime could run "Married to Meth: The Skyler White Story" where a mother of two tries to keep her family together after her husband makes an abrupt turn into unethical behavior. Or on Crime TV, the story of the dedicated cop who slowly comes to realize how close to home the meth trade runs, and in a subplot learns to love his klepto wife again. Or on Sundance, the story of a boy who was born on the wrong side of the tracks, grew up in a criminal / White Supremacist family, wants to fly straight and be professional within the constraints of the world of crime, and seeks to win the heart of this high-class lady he's met on occasion.

Though personally the one I'd Tivo is "Jesse Pinkman the Science Bitch", or "Jesse P the Science B" if they must. Jesse and his friends (Badger and Skinny Pete) demonstrate principles of physics and chemistry, and Jesse's catchphrase after every demonstration is "science, bitch!" Tell me you wouldn't watch it.

cognitivedissonance - 2013-09-23

You could say Skyler is there to slow the pace of the show down for the sake of advertising needs. An AMC Pacer, if you will.

Quad9Damage - 2013-09-23

Skylar is annoying, overbearing and unsympathetic until it's clear that Walt has turned into a monster. We just started Season 5 on Netflix and suddenly I'm rooting for Hank to catch a man who has been consumed by his own darkness. Walt is dying or dead from a different kind of cancer now. At the end of S5E2 he gets in bed and plants sensuous kisses on Skylar's neck while she cries. The notion isn't lost on me; Walt's turned into a goddamned vampire.

Quad9Damage - 2013-09-23

Now it's all about Skyler finding peace, Hank catching his Heisenberg, Jesse finding his way out of the dark and Walt either dying or being forced to live with what he's become.
