Very cool, I was totally there with Rapper's Delight, it was the first rap I heard, and it was huge at my school. Curtis Blow's Breaks was around the same time.

I recall the radio station having a discussion of the rights issues to using the beats from Good Times as the backing track for Rapper's Delight, and do you think that amounted to stealing from Chic.

That was all before there were rules to that game, which I believe happened after Double Dee and Steinski crossed the line by using pieces of everything mashed into their songs, with no original content. That's when the sample police started, consultants who listened to songs and were experts at hearing infringing samples and getting payment for them.
