Asylum is one of the greatest things that has ever been shown on television. It is a masterpiece.

Yep, here it is, the evil side of Shirley Ellis.
Excruciating.
On the positive side, I'll be leaving your party now.

I'll try and watch this. I couldn't get into the first series because it seemed to toss every horror movie setup cliche in the book at you (troubled family, sex, disturbed teen, magical mental disability, warnings to get out of the house, etc.) in the first two or three episodes without any actual payoff.

did you stay for the whole thing though? i really liked the first one because of the house. it reminded of being young watching the first season of alferd Hitchcock presents. they used the same four room sets for most of that season, so i always liked to imagine that it all took place in the same house but decades apart. for a tv show, they did a good enough job tying all the stories together at the end to give me that fun feeling. thumbs up. im going go binge now on the second season after the fireworks

Yeah pretty much. I tried the very first episode but it was so ridiculous I couldn't tell if it was a parody or not. It almost seemed like a Scary Movie with all the pop culture references taken out.

Not sure which part was more ridiculous: expecting us to be scared by a haunted gimp suit, or the idea of a 62 year old Jessica Lange playing the mother to a teenager, married to a man half her age, and being upset that them trying to have another kid hadn't been working out.

Hmm. Guess I'll check this out.

This is one of those shows that the critics just did not "get" and for some reason most of them liked season 1 better. Season 2 is far superior and is basically one of the best horror scripts ever written. The characters are all brilliantly conceived. I have put it in my top five series of all time. The writing still blows me away. But it also builds up in a way that is too difficult for most series to do because each season uses a lot of the same actors in completely different roles, so they can do completely different stories.

One of the most enjoyable parts is seeing just how much range the actors really have. Another is seeing the different plotlines weave together.

Asylum disappointed me.. had great moments, but to attach the label "horror" to this show rather than "soap opera" is a bit of a stretch. The first season was actually kind of creepy, this season was not scary in the least, it simply made you watch for the same reason breaking bad episodes are hard to put down - good writing.

I mean, I liked that season and all (havent started coven) but it had one or two plot points that ended abruptly, went nowhere or weren't used to full effect. All in all, I enjoyed it though.
