It's one of the events in lumberjack competitions,which are a real thing and sound awesome. I met a career arborist a couple years ago who goes to the biggest one in the east every year with his crew, and it sounds reasonably awesome.
Next time I teach my Vikings class, gonna use this. Don't actually remember any evidence of axes being thrown in Viking-age descriptions of combat, but still.
You have to spend like 3 feats to even try throwing a two handed weapon in combat, and the range increment is like 10 feet. Just specialize in a bow or crossbow, the rate of fire is way better.
