No Chris Chan tag?

Eh, this video came up last night in my Youtube recommended videos and I submitted it because it was new to me even though I've seen plenty of atomic bomb test footage stuff.

I honestly didn't submit it because of the fire at Chris-chan's house, the timing was just coincidental. It did occur to me that people might think that, but only after I submitted it.

The Gods work in mysterious ways, and it is not for us to ignore their gifts.

paid for by White Folks brand white paint. May the whitest houses survive!

Slap on enough coats of our patent-pending lead-based enamel, and you too may survive a nuclear blast with nary a whisker out of place!

You'll be found seared to death in the nicest house in the neighborhood!

When nuclear weapon yields were still being measured in kilotons, I could actually believe that keeping your home and yard tidy could give you an edge in survival. But, yeah, once the superpowers switched to H-bombs with explosive potentials measured in megatons of TNT, I doubt it'd have made much of any difference.

the yield doesn't matter as much as your range from it.

there are all kinds of lovely diagrams showing the ranges at which heat would kill anyone in the open, anyone near the outer walls of buildings, cause 3rd degree burns, 2nd degree burns, etc, etc.

The difference between the fission and fusion bomb graphs is one is in miles the other in hundreds of miles.

I wish I could say, "What a horrifying time to be alive!" but we have even bigger bombs now. Arg.
