wishful thinking

Well done.

Also, someone needs to pick a good "Grammy awards are satanic rituals" clip for 2014. I tried a quick search and the most recent ones were about this song, actually.

I searched for Grammy & Illuminati and found Mark Dice, who discusses things besides Katy Perry's performance (though Katy Perry was discussed first). Not interested enough to submit it (never was into watching awards shows), but you can submit it if you want.

sasazuka - 2014-01-29

I also wouldn't submit it myself as Mark Dice pretty much stops analyzing the symbolism Grammys about three minutes in (of a nine minute video) and starts talking about himself being right all of the time. Boring.

Everyone on that GOP Facebook group I mine for Tea Party comments was truly appalled by that one witch-themed musical number. Apparently Tea Party people literally fear witches.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2014-01-29

I'm always amazed at the depth of Christian superstition. Anything that doesn't come from Best Buy that they can't understand is immediately the result of hanging a bag of herbs over a door or something.

If witches and wizards actually existed, we'd be using them to make electricity and teleport people to the Hogwarts moon colony. Sadly, to admit that such things are baloney probably leads to a lot of uncomfortable questions about supernatural beings in general and Jesus in particular...

Read a good article on that.

"Christians don't hate the magic stuff in Harry Potter because they're insane. They hate it because they're Christian."

To them, seeing the Harry Potter world with an entire system of alternate superstition and magic as the norm is like us watching a movie where the backdrop is a fascist government that works great and everyone loves, especially kids.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2014-01-29

Except fascist governments are possible. We have proof of their former existence and historical relics of their reign. One might happen again in the future, and I'm sure that would make the "right kind of people" quite happy, indeed.

The problem with thinking Harry Potter's setup is possible is that there's no evidence that magic works or has ever worked. We have no magic swords or wands that levitate furniture and so forth. The thought that such a system could conceivably exist outside of a book and movie series IS insane. I can almost understand their fear of other religions (as in, their god/gods will displace my god/gods as the majority religion), but even that requires more leaps of logic and defiance of facts to qualify as rational.

I like sci-fi and I've watched/read loads of works from the genre. At no time have I ever seriously thought that I had to keep a lookout for Borg, that our planet might be invaded through the Stargate under Cheyenne Mountain, or that robots from the future would come back in time to murder someone who would grow up to defeat them.

Hence "They hate it because they're Christian."

They're predisposed to believe magic ritual fairytale shit is real. That's why they hate everything that has kids buying into the "wrong" magic (D&D, Ouija boards, etc.).

a million fucking stars

gravelstudios - 2014-01-29

I used to like Taylor Swift, but in the last couple of years, she's bought into her own hype waaaay too much.

Prickly Pete - 2014-01-29

Ryu I'ma let you finish, but Ken has the best Shoryuken of all time! Of all time!

Prickly Pete - 2014-01-29

Addendum: if anyone thinks the Shin Shoryuken is superior to the Shinryuken, I will fight you... at Street Fighter...
