It's cool that people like a show and all, but dear god maybe slow down on the submissions. In the space of less than a month there's been, like, 10-12 videos from this. Link to a YT account or something...

infinite zest - 2014-02-15

I think AS is putting up more full shows on youtube, which does lead to context (the "guy on the street" routines are funnier if watched within the rest of the shows.) I submitted the "What if it was Purple" thing, which is.. well it is what it is. But as far as I know this is Shirley Temple's last-ever television appearance so it's pretty important, contextually or not.

This show is great and you should feel great watching it.

yogarfield - 2014-02-15

Hey StanleyPain I've got an anagram for you: SANELY PAINT.

There seems to be some debate whether that was actually Shirley Temple, but Eric tweeted just the other day:

"Iconic Child Star Shirley Temple Dies: Honored to have one of her last performances on my show"

undecided - 2014-02-16

Guys that's not Shirley Temple.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2014-02-16

You just can't handle her decrepit greatness.

infinite zest - 2014-02-16

I'm pretty sure SAG would come after AS and Andre if it was fake. Tim and Eric (I promise this isn't a spoiler, just sets up the plot for the movie, if you ever feel like watching it) had a Johnny Depp lookalike and it was established fairly early on that it wasn't Johnny Depp, and everyone was pissed because they wasted a billion dollars on the guy.

undecided - 2014-02-16

First of all, it doesn't look like her. A quick google image search confirms that. And she's not listed in the credits or on the show IMDB page. She and her people would have to have been pretty out of it to agree to do this kind of shit on a show like this.

Bort - 2014-02-16

Yes, I seem to recall Shirley Temple was no taller than Stepin Fetchit's belly. (Not your point, I know.)

I lean to it being the actual Shirley Temple, on the grounds that there's no credit identifying her as a fake, and Eric Andre spoke as if it really was her. It would be a real dick move for Eric Andre to make false claims about a recently-deceased Shirley Temple; I can't imagine it would be the sort of attention he would want.

As to why she would do the Eric Andre Show, I figure it was just a lark, a very low-impact way for her to get in front of a camera again. Hell, for all I know, she's a fan of Hannibal Buress and/or Eric Andre.

infinite zest - 2014-02-16

Andre did an episode (webisode I guess) of a show where you get into bed with Joan Rivers, and spent the whole time talking all sexy and weird. I'm guessing Temple and Rivers knew each other in some capacity, so it's not that weird. But yeah he does have a bunch of fake guests, mostly bigger stars, but Carrot Top's real, and so's Dolph Lundgren, if that means anything (it does to me.)

There's a SAG lifetime achievement award video from 2006 given to Temple where she looks about like this, maybe just.. healthier, a little bigger but lookin' good. If Andre had a Shirley Temple look-alike, that'd be fine (I thought it was fake too the first time I saw it, given how emaciated she looks) but then to tweet about it and say that.. well yeah that's just going too far. The debate continues.

Spoiler-- the Diamond Jim (Johnny Depp) scene is the best part of the movie.

Jack Dalton - 2014-02-16

And that was meant to be a reply to infinite zest...

infinite zest - 2014-02-16

It was kind of the only good part of the movie. And I re-watched it just to make sure. And I like Tim and Eric.

Jack Dalton - 2014-02-16

I agree-- it was the only good part of the movie... Everything else came off as either pathetically lazy or trying too hard. It had potential, but it is impossible to defend most of the movie... I know they relish in pissing people off, but it was more dissapointing to me than offensive. I did enjoy the Steven Spiehlberg look a-like at the end affirming the film's "greatness."

baleen - 2014-02-17

If you were not stoned off your ass when you watched that movie, you didn't watch it right.

I hardly ever smoke pot these days, but on the nights that I watched that movie (I've seen it twice), I was with other people and was both drunk and extremely baked.

Kind of like Up in Smoke or something. Seeing Leland ask his sons to shit on Eric Wareheim in a bathtub to heal him destroyed me.

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2014-02-16

I know so little about pop culture and the various stars names and such that I usually cant tell whether the people on this show are real or not. Its vaguely annoying but also kinda fun.

Jet Bin Fever - 2014-02-17

Shirley Temple was a really great lady.
