You know, as I get older, I've taken to wearing wide-brimmed hats to help keep the sun/rain off. Just about every style I like seems to have been adopted by one stripe of asshole/PUA douchebag or another.
I think all that's left is to start wearing whatever it is the Amish go for when out in the fields.

badideasinaction - 2014-02-21 I was wondering the same thing - eventually I went with a black leather plain cowboy hat, basically the SRV flat top style. Keeps out sun, rain, even snow, looks fine the more it gets beat up, and has the bonus of me reading "trucker" instead of "long haired freak hippie" when I'm travelling in rural country. Seems to work and avoids the idiots co-opting it since it's still a contemporary hat and not befitting their "classy" reputation.
But it helps to have a monster-sized head, otherwise you look like a kid in your dad's hat if a cowboy hat looks too big on your head.

The leather hat sounds promising. We have a renfest near here that sells that sort of thing. Maybe I can get something there.
If not, I'll have to mug me some Amish. Maybe I can get some furniture that way, too.
