It was a master stroke. The media had planned to talk about CPAC all week. The usual dance where conservatives say increasingly absurd and hateful things to get camera time was in full swing. Paul Ryan was actually standing to benefit the most, since he was likely to be brought up to explain his statements on the Sunday shows, boosting his numbers.
Then Obama does this and it's all obliterated. It's fantastic.
