The one at the end is how I've always imagined them. If I can't wear socks on my front porch without them getting filthy, how could something big and slimy make it through a dungeon without collecting all that grit?

Actually, that would be a fun backstory. Some wizard summons a gelatinous cube just to tidy the place up a bit and it gets a little out of hand.

I'd like to think at least one artistic cube would figure out how to manipulate the grit into 3D sculptures inside itself.

Anyone else here see the words "Gelatinous cube" and immediately think of "Zantar" from the arcade game in WAYNE'S WORLD?
They're not even Cubes.
