I didn't get this movie. The choices presented to people at first seem to be clearly right/wrong, hard/easy (pub vs. 12 step program) and then at some point become arbitrary. The Russians making the "wrong" choice of going back to their mother, rather than becoming police to beat people up struck me as backwards. Among a million other things.

It seems like I'm always wasted in one form or another when someone puts this on, so I still don't get it. There's really not a Gilliam movie I don't like, but I think he's at his best when the films are mostly grounded in reality, like Fisher King or 12 Monkeys or Fear and Loathing. Films like Munchausen and this one have the same feel as a Tim Burton film. Nothing wrong with that, but I prefer the former.
