So, in the 90s, I felt really awful about owning and using sneakers. Is that over, or does my phone get added onto that guilt pile?
I think you gotta throw it on the pile.
I don't know that there are any cruelty-free smartphones (or dumb phones, for that matter). When my Foxconn demon phone finally dies, I'll be buying refurbished, which seems to be the only answer that doesn't involve eschewing mobile phones altogether.
Hopefully I'm wrong and someone can correct me.

Stuff like this always makes me think about how, with the wealth disparity, I could more or less buy one of these people and it'd probably actually be a nicer life for them than working in the benzene factory.
It's been a while since I read the emancipation constitution, but I think it's cool if they're not Black.

Is this really the price of electronics we're talking about, or the wages of the super rich? I'm not convinced that technology is really the problem.
It's about shareholders and corporations pursuing returns at all human costs; whether that be closing factories and laying off thousands of people who depend on the wage to feed their children, or overlooking working conditions that would have us all up in arms if it were how people housed their dogs.
CEO and bankster wages are high because those people basically decide their own wages, whereas they also decide the wages for working schlubs like us.
The rich may have more money than you, but you have the same amount of Tantalum in your iPads.

It's a very complicated issue. I hope things improve for them, but I just don't see how they will given how ineffective reform can be in China.
