Why do I hear the Mortal Kombat theme in my head?

infinite zest - 2014-06-05

Ain't a trailer until the bass drops oh there it goes. I liked this movie a lot.

Cena_mark - 2014-06-05

I have no idea what its about, but it looks rad.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2014-06-05

I concur. I hate those stupid fucking Planet of the Apes movies but the Chinese have finally come up with a monkey themed movie I won't hate.

A monkey is born from a rock. He is no ordinary monkey. He is the Ur-Monkey. The Platonic monkey from whence all other monkeys are based. He is proud, violent, shortsighted and ultimately intensely resilient. He decides to study the Tao, and learns the magical martial arts. He decides to declare war on the Celestial Bureaucracy, and wins. The Jade Emperor (God) decides that it's better to not fight him, and so Monkey is declared keeper of the Celestial Stables, and allowed a minor demigodhood.

Monkey is dissatisfied. Monkey sneaks into the Jade Emperor's garden of peaches which grant immortality, and eats all of them. Outraged, the Jade Emperor declares war on Monkey, and the Jade Emperor loses, but the Jade Emperor appeals to Buddha, who is above the gods themselves. Buddha challenges Monkey to a duel of wits, being that if Monkey can fly to the edge of the universe, Monkey is superior to Buddha. Monkey flies to the edge of the universe only to discover he's in the Buddha's hand the entire time. Buddha then traps Monkey in a rock for several thousand years, until a Buddhist monk frees him, which puts Monkey in the debt to the monk, and together they set off to find ancient scriptures of Buddhism and bring them back to China. They make best friends with a pig and a horse that is also a dragon (it's confusing). And a sand demon.

All sorts of things happen, and it goes on for four more volumes, and they're all incredibly awesome. I just finished reading it a few weeks ago. Monkey and the gang beat the living shit out of the known universe repeatedly.

Another one?? I just watched Stephen Chow's "Journey To THe West" a few nights ago (it was awesome by the way) and learned that there was something like 3 different Monkey King tv shows in China between 2012 to 2014. Damn.

So I take it judging from the trailer, this will be about the pre-Journey To The West stuff about Sun Wukong revolting against heaven or something.

Yeah. This one's pretty much all 3D, and at times it shows. But once you get used to it, it's a fun ride.

The Monkey King story gets at least one or two movies/tv series in China every 2 or 3 years.

Jet Bin Fever - 2014-06-05

They're milking that monkey for all the money he's worth.

cognitivedissonance - 2014-06-05

Sun Wukong is the Eastern Alice in Wonderland.

Gmork - 2014-06-06

A bunch of ridiculous powers? I'm in.

Esperma de Mutante - 2014-06-07

I'll watch any of these, even Chinese Tall Story.
