Not shown: the dogs Shackleton left tied up to the hut. Slow, awful deaths.
I thought they ate them all
The ate the ones they took on the dogsled, but they came with more dogs than they needed.
I don't care about those dogs. And as long as bad stuff continues to happen to human beings worldwide, I will continue to opt out of America's increasingly mawkish obsession with certain animals. There are children dying of malnutrition and preventable disease all around the world, and the richest country on the planet steers an increasing percentage of its wealth and charitable donations towards various quadrupeds.
I know plenty of people who are proud of the fact that they'd choose their pet's life over that of a stranger. Something is deeply wrong here, and it seems to be a weird blend of Victorian-style sentimentality and queasy New Age relativism.
Set up a Kickstarter for a Shackleton Dog Memorial. I have no doubt you will meet your goal.
The tomb of the unknown innocent dog of peace. burp.
Every single world leader isn't trying to oppress each country's dog population for fear of sharing power with them. For every starving child there's a rich piece of shit in authority who isn't been taken out by a drone.
Don't pretend the two are equivalent in solution.
