Now now, fight fair, Cog. The Beast does have chapter headings, I am looking at my old copy now. Chapter 1 is called "The Theme" and chapter two is called "The Chain". In fact, "The" precedes every chapter heading until 10 or thereabouts. Presumably so the last chapter can be titled "The End" and it'll all hang together?

Now that I'm looking at the book again, it's all coming back to me. You've got to address this thing in the book where all the consumer goods are shoddy pieces of trash as opposed to the quality goods we used to have. I can totally dig that; it's the reality we live in today. Thanks Capitalism!
