When did real life become "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City"?
Seriously, a cop can arbitrarily shout, "SHOW ME SOME ID!" then beat the shit out of you if you refuse to comply?
"Seriously, a cop can arbitrarily shout, "SHOW ME SOME ID!" then beat the shit out of you if you refuse to comply?"
Yes, they can...and they'll face legal consequences for doing so.
There is no invisible force that will stop them, no Tom Cruise in a hover-nautilus to arrest them before the crime is committed.
Binro the Heretic
How many cops truly face these "legal consequences" though?
It seems like all they have to do is say they "felt threatened" because, after all, they didn't know if the middle-aged woman they tried to stop for jaywalking was secretly a ninja assassin in a terrorist sleeper cell and anyway, SHE SHOULDN'T HAVE RESISTED!
And when we do hear about cops getting reprimanded, it's usually paid leave, desk duty or some other slap on the wrist bullshit.
I'm mostly upset that a cop can demand your ID for something as mild as jaywalking or littering and if you get the slightest bit upset or seem the least bit uncooperative, they can treat you like you're a gun-wielding maniac hopped up on PCP and face little or no consequences.
if you've broken a law, and police decide you should be arrested, you shouldn't resist, no matter what your yuppie sense of justice tells you. Fight it in court, because you wont win fighting the police.
also it's pretty entitled to expect cops to risk their lives more than necessary because you think certain gender/race/age combinations are weak and harmless 100% of the time. That's not even taking into account mental illness that might be involved in this case.
(again, disclaimer for idiots; I think this is excessive force, but some of you seem to think that cop had no right to even talk to the woman wandering through traffic)

Well, I guess in your imagination, that does happen.
FYI, if they had treated her like they would a "gun-wielding maniac hopped up on PCP", they would have emptied their clips into her.
this whole site is a dream binro

I haven't checked the Youtube comments yet but I expect to see someone defending the cop along these lines:
1) "We don't know whole story. Consider the policeman's perspective."
2) "What do you think happens when you break the law?"
3) "niggers lol"
"maybe some peoples' reaction, like mine, was "Damn! But, I wonder what led up to this..." -- you know, because "benefit of the doubt"." ~ Kat N. Nerdvana
"Love police the people who say fuck the police will be in jail.... Soon" ~ brock lesnar27
"I'm sure there is a back story to this the woman is probably a hoodrat that made a comment to the officer" ~ parker melville
"If she wouldn't have tried to evade capture and resisted arrest, she wouldn't have been beat down. Simple answer is, don't fight the police." ~ Chris Moore
Though to be fair I'd say around 70% of the top comments are of the 'fuck the police' variety.
all the 'cops are pigs' bullshit aside, it's possible that she broke the law and he's an asshole using excessive force.
two wrongs make a bunch of whiney internet arguments.
One of these wrongs is not like the other.
The "punch black faces" tag is missing.
Thank you brave officer of peace for protecting us from a Fifty One year old grandmother.
if you have the news story, supply us with a link, so we know what the fuck happened in the video before starting our internet outrage or not outrage back and forth.
i put her name in the description to simplify looking up an article from any preferred media outlet
If she had a flamethrower, AK 47 or was somehow an obvious danger to her surroundings then I could see two cops goings MMA or worse on her.
As it stands, I don't see that she was a threat that justified that level of violence.
it sounds like she was walking through traffic?
oh, before an idiot reacts, I still think this is excessive force and police brutality.
the video is of interest to me because of the police brutality, not the inciting act of walking in traffic.
poetv challenge: find a video of a crazy person wandering in traffic resulting in a tragedy that doesn't involve cops
now it does involve cops, but none of them drag her to the ground and beat her, which in that case might have been a better outcome.
and the shit on liveleak with pedestrians and traffic wouldn't stand a snowballs chance in hell in the hopper.
oh damn. i'd seen that before also and i think it's on here already. too easy
whoops meant as reply to solro in pillagers comment thread
Did you really think it would be hard to find tragic results from squishy meat puppet walking in area with 4 ton metal rams moving at high speed?
not really. i was fumbling towards a point about bringing up irrelevancies to distract from the focus of the discussion with victim blaming but my heart wasnt really in it
