"Black Jesus will depict Christ in the hood, where he will be handing out booze to people on the street, homeless people, it looks like to me.

Well, didn't He?

Machine Gun Jesus handed out Chateau Palmer Margaux to fellow members of his whites only country club.

Jesus is the greatest direct threat to Christianity that has ever existed.
Five stars for the Christian Outrage Form Letter.
No, wait, five for bringing up how Muslims react violently to Mohammed images as an example of how Cartoon Network should have learned their lesson. Can't be Christian without an unending stream of veiled threats of violence.
Nope, five for the sudden talking points global warming denial tourettes.

I have a copy of the Thomas Jefferson Bible and I read it once a year or so. With all the supernatural knob slobbing removed, it's a great comedy. Jesus goes around getting asked the stupidest questions possible and you can imagine him easily wanting to say "I'm sure I don't care" but instead tries to change the subject to something less stupid. A cautionary tale about wanting to save the naked ape from itself.

The official trailer is only offensive if you dislike lazy jokes. So... Bryan Fischer kind of has a point, you guys.

BorrowedSolution - 2014-07-29

Wow. Bonus anti-science raving at the end.

This is Sasha Baron Cohen's finest character to date.

I don't even need to watch all of this to give fife for Fischer's tantrums.

This is Aaron McGruder's new project, yes? I haven't heard much about it, but a cancellation drive from Bryan Fischer is a pretty awesome endorsement!

One thing I have to ask is, has Mr Fischer ever actually read any of McGruder's work? I doubt he'd like it much, but still - accusing Aaron McGruder of playing to the worst stereotypes in the black community shows a profound lack of familiarity with the man. McGruder is notorious for heaping criticism on African American pop-culture, and while he does have a hyper-violent, "ghetto" streak (particularly since he made the switch from political comics to Adult Swim cartoons), it's always played for satire: Escobar, Rummy, the various rappers from the show, and of course the entire R Kelly episode.

I'm also not convinced that McGruder actually believes the whole "Black Jesus" thing. Huey is clearly the character with whom McGruder most closely identifies, but I always got the sense that McGruder was gently riffing on himself, making Huey out to be this cartoonishly extreme radical Afrocentrist, intelligent and well-intentioned, but also a little naive.

I dunno, maybe he does believe that particular conspiracy, maybe he doesn't, but one thing for sure is that he's a nuanced satirist who's willing to to make insightful observations from multiple, sometimes seemingly contradictory, angles. If anyone can handle a show about Jesus, it'd be him.
