Something a lot like this happened in a high school in my town. A kid claimed he got in trouble for wearing a Jesus-y t-shirt. Turned out he had been harassing other students in the hallways with aggressive Jesus talk and had been warned multiple times to knock it off. He was also a 20 year old in high school for some reason, but that is not very surprising for the Alabama of Canada.

So how did being suspended for face punching get turned into being suspended for saying "God bless you"? That is an amazing stretch.

The school is refusing to comment because, they claim (and quite rightly so) that they want to protect the student. Seriously, if she got into trouble for punching a kid in the the head (on another occasion, you're saying?) there's no reason why that should become national news, but meanwhile her church is holding a press conference? Whatever the situation here, I think it's being exploited by some opportunistic pricks who don't care about the young woman.

I think what he's saying is that she's been suspended before. I'm seeing stuff like that in other comments, but no one has linked yet.

The video was down so I pulled a couple of articles up, and found this was in Dyersburg, TN. If I recall it is a very small, very white conservative town. I don't recall seeing any stoplights. I highly doubt the classmates are going to come forward and say she was being disruptive, this is a small southern town that is still about 50 years in the past.

Do you have a source on that, RoUS? I'm looking around, but I can't find anything about the student throwing punches.

I don't know a single American, be them Muslim, Christian, Atheist, or Jew, who doesn't say "bless you" when someone sneezes.

This kid got "in school suspension", which is what people called "detention" back in the day. She got this for the remainder of the class period, not the whole day. It's not like she got kicked out of school. From all the reports I've read it was because she was disrupting the class, she disrupted the class and was yelling across the room to other students. Whether she said "bless you" or not in that time seems pretty irrelevant, and claiming saying "bless you" is an expression of the Christian faith is a laughable claim.

tl;dr: Kid is disruptive class clown, gets punished for it, makes up dubious claim that she's being oppressed, parents get mad and see an opportunity for media attention to get back at the school; Christians who are mad that they can't force public schools to force Muslim and Atheist kids to say Christian prayers flock in support to a bullshit story that supports their mental narrative of victimhood.

I don't say bless you, occasionally "excuse you" but then I'm not American, wonder if it's a cultural thing?

I force them into an isolation ward.

I say "demons come out!" and if they sneeze again I give them shit for having so many demons they can't hold them in. Three times and I tell them they're going straight to hell for being a demon incubator.

I've been doing that so long I have ceased considering the religious orientation of the person sneezing before I condemn them for demons. It's just fun condemning for demons, I see why Christians do it constantly.
