Captain Buzzkill here,
Autofive for Oliver and this was incredibly charming, but as a former Uncle (kid's fine, just a past marriage) I always try to view things like Sesame Street from a kid's perspective, as I had to watch so many of these things with him. For context, this was like 2006 or so, when Sesame Street seemed incredibly boring and unfunny for both of us. Anyway, I don't think I'd get most of these jokes if I was a kid, especially the Sesame Street "age," which I believe is supposed to be like 3-5.
Problem is, the parents are laughing and the kid's probably going to ask about Oliver and what he does, just like when James Gandalfini did his best Tony Soprano. "____ is on a show for grown-ups with grown-up language" to me, anyway, would encourage me to seek it out that much more, potentially learning the "playground" words before preschool. Sure, I knew "Rebel L" years before I knew who Generation X were, but it takes some kind of super-parent to keep their kid from any searches for John Oliver. I seriously saw a whole family with iPhones, the youngest of which couldn't have been older than two. I dunno..
