What a dated and shit show this was.

infinite zest - 2014-09-22

To all my friends over the years who've told me to watch this show, thanks, but no thanks. I'll stick with this.

yogarfield - 2014-09-23

Adding Chumbawamba to this mix is like water-boarding a choking victim.

Dinkin Flicka - 2014-09-23

You all hate Buffy but like The Avengers? #branding #brainwashed

EvilHomer - 2014-09-23

Emma Peel > Buffy

Hands down.

Hooker - 2014-09-22

Another disappointing sequel.

Nikon - 2014-09-22

It's definitely a product of the 90s, but it's still a lot of fun.

Kid Fenris - 2014-09-22

Ohhhh, I get it. And I hate it.

I never cared for this show, but I'm not sure how much of that was due to Sarah Michelle Gellar. Couldn't stand her or her character.

infinite zest - 2014-09-22

I never got it in the first place. Buffy The Vampire Slayer was this kind of funny Clueless-esque movie but she's also a vampire hunter. The movie was OK, because it was about 90 minutes and I got it: same would've been true if Jesse from Saved by the Bell went out at night and hunted vampires. The TV show had clever writing, from what little I've seen, but you're also dealing with a movie that nobody watched. I mean, we remember the Ferris Beueler miniseries, right? Everybody watched that, so why not make a show about it and see how that works. Well, that didn't work so let's make a movie out of something that did really bad! Ten years from now we'll call it ironic.

-Joss Whedon

What makes the show work is the close friendship between Xander, Willow, and Buffy. It's not so much that the show itself is ironic, but that it has some very strong shifts in tone in different episodes.

Xenocide - 2014-09-22

Actually the great thing about Buffy was that it wasn't ironic. The supposed irony is a trap the writers set for the viewer. Yeah, the characters were all quippy and sarcastic a lot of the time, but it slowly dawns on you that it's a defense mechanism, because they regularly deal with shit that should result in a lifetime of PTSD on a weekly basis. It's actually a show about some folks dealing with magic and zombies and crap and realizing that none of that is as scary as their own shortcomings as people.

EvilHomer - 2014-09-23

My ex was a hardcore Buffy fan. In the ten years we were together, I learned a lot about why people watch Buffy; if she was any indication, they watch it because of James Marsters shirtless, David Boreanaz shirtless, and Seth Green imaginarily shirtless.

It is a dumb show and I hated it.

EvilHomer - 2014-09-23

Cordelia was really hot, though. It is a known fact that "Angel" was superior to "Buffy" in every way; chiefly, through the better use of kung fu, and the constant presence of the show's best character, Cordelia. Willow and Faith were pretty good, too, 9/10 and 7/10 respectively, although their Todd McFarlane bullshit got a bit tiresome at times.

IMO, the show would have worked much better had they just dropped every character except for Cordelia, Willow, and Xander, and also had gotten rid of Joss Whedon, and also had been Breaking Bad instead.

Dinkin Flicka - 2014-09-23

I'm assume, Evil Homer, that you actually love Buffy, since the above comment is so nonsensically retarded that I have to assume you're parodying someone

EvilHomer - 2014-09-23

The only Whedon show I liked was Firefly, but I wouldn't really say I "loved" it, since I never finished watching it. I keep meaning to go back and check it out again, but Firefly is always low on my list of things to get to. In Buffy's defense, I will say that it is not the show I hate *the most*, but it is quite terrible (Cordelia Chase notwithstanding).

Nerf Herder deserved better.

infinite zest - 2014-09-23

I tried to watch Serenity, but didn't make it all the way through. Am I missing something? It wasn't funny like Farscape or Lexx, and if I want to see really cool special effects I'll just stick with Guardians of the Galaxy, which is more-or-less the same thing (and also funny.)

Spoonybard - 2014-09-23

I didn't really care for Serenity either, but I enjoyed the TV show. The pilot makes a better movie, and the second episode is better than the first.

garcet71283 - 2014-09-22

Because i like Anthony Head.

infinite zest - 2014-09-23

It's pretty good, but personally I'd like Cordelia head :/

cognitivedissonance - 2014-09-23

Because I like "Chess".

The Mothership - 2014-09-22

Chumbawumba.

bongoprophet - 2014-09-23

we're talking a lot about deconstructing shit here these days but were shitting on Buffy? Booo you old blowhards!

That guy - 2014-09-23

LEAVE BUFFY ALONE!!!!!

That guy - 2014-09-23

also I hate this show because it's bad

Sanest Man Alive - 2014-09-23

This is more the spiritual sequel to "O'Brien must suffer", if anything.

If we're starting a Buffy hatetrain here, I guess I'll couple my car by saying I thought Lollipop Chainsaw did a better job of being Buffy than Buffy did, and I don't even care much for Suda51's "HEY GUYS AM I TARANTINO YET" oeuvre either.
