I watched this muted while listening to Funker Vogt which gave it an interesting quality.

I tend to be mostly interested in androgynous tomboys and sort of suspicious of "girly" women. This has resulted in me hitting on a lot of lesbians over the years. But, I think this video somehow justifies this policy on my part.

I know that feeling all too well. At least with me, we laugh it off and remain friends, still sharing great conversation which is for me, better than the sex that wasn't gonna happen. I dated a "girly" girl once from the smallest town in Wisconsin, she even had a horse. She was really beautiful and in a way, I felt like the John Cusack to the whatshername from Say Anything. She liked kind of crappy music and when I met her parents, I was told to "avoid politics." It was a great short term relationship and it did a lot to expel some of my personal stereotypes and fears, being the "total badass punk rocker" that I totally am, like a Little Mermaid but with the gender roles reversed or something. So they're not all bad. But seriously, I thought she was about to say "to do the dishes."

hahahahaha

I know she's saying all women should be "girly" and that's the wrong approach, but honestly I kind of feel like "girly" women have been taking a lot of shit, lately.

Some women (and men) just like getting all dolled up and avoiding dirt & stuff and they shouldn't be judged as weak or inferior for that.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2014-09-27

Yeah, it's almost like wanting to be a pretty made up girly girl is looked down upon now.

I mean this is silly for a lot of reasons, but sexist? Its about as sexist as a little girl wanting to be a Disney princess.

This is pretty much standard country fare though (church, God, trucks, 'murrika, nothing else of substance).

craptacular - 2014-09-27

it's pretty narcissistic though

ashtar. - 2014-09-27

It's sexist in that she's making normative generalizations about girls. All girls are like this and if you're not, you're doing vagina-having wrong because you're failing to fulfill the functions that God invented girls to fulfill. She also seems to be defining the identity of girls entirely in terms of their relationship to boyswomen exist in order to civilize men and look pretty.

Pope Caius - 2014-09-27

There is also the dismal view that the song takes of men - that they need women to drag them to church, make them dress up, "let" them drive... Actually it sounds like the anthem of unhappy passive-aggressive housewives more than of a Taylor Swift wannabe. Her parents must have a wonderful marriage.

infinite zest - 2014-09-27

It's sexist because I don't have a truck.

ashtar. - 2014-09-27

Yes, the whole "my role is to nag you into doing stuff and of live vicariously through your achievements" script that some traditional women have in their heads is the reason that I'm suspicious of "girly" women.

Xenocide - 2014-09-28

The song's original title was, "I'm miserable and hate the role I play in life but if we all pretend that it's an inescapable consequence of my gender then I'll feel less shitty about it since at least that way it's a prison every other woman is trapped in with me, and naturally if I see any woman who doesn't conform to this standard I'll go out of my way to hate and shame her for 'not being a real woman,' though secretly I envy her for having the freedom I will never attain."

But that was deemed too tough to find a consistent rhyme for.

good voice

Xenocide - 2014-09-28

Apparently God was watching an episode of The Flintstones or Family Guy when He made girls because it sounds like their purpose in life is to keep a wacky bumbling husband in line.

♫ Somebody's gotta make him get dressed up,
Give him a reason to wash that truck,
Somebody's gotta teach him how to - ♫

Oh. She was made famous through that show The Voice. I might start tuning in because a friend of mine is on this season.
