I was just talking about this show last night over a beer. My take was that it was the right premise at the right time, plus good design-camera-sound-editing/money on the screen/PR.

No one seems to have notice that the writing is god-awful, and it makes the actors awful. The fan base has such a raging boner for zombies that it could have been popsicle-stick puppets the rest of the way.

it's good for trash tv. If you don't like watching garbage tv you won't like it. The comics are a GREAT read though. Not sure if they're still good, but yah

Yeah I think I'm passadena on getting into it, but it's often on at a bar or restaurant, on mute, with some pop song playing in the background. So 2:48 on is usually how I watch this show anyway.

Ironically, I was reading something about the last line from one of the episodes, where protagonist guy supposedly says "they're fucking with the wrong people" like in the comic, edited for TV as "messing" but there's theories that he said something absurd like "they're barking up the wrong apple" just so they wouldn't get in trouble if really good lip readers discovered it.

That Guy describes it well. It's a nice production, but the writing is terrible. All the characters are one dimensional caricatures. The women spend the first two seasons crying, doing laundry, and being useless. I was promised if I slogged through seasons 1 and 2, 3 would be good. There was maybe half of one good episode (it's so much better when nobody is talking) and then a cartoon villain with a goddamn eyepatch showed up and the one chick who might have been interesting did nothing of value. Maybe it has improved, I don't know.

oh my god.... the writing for the women is completely laughable... the first season is pretty tough to watch

The comics are terrible. The writing is just atrocious, not to mention the art is weak and is black and white. Compared to the show, I don't see how anyone could consider the show a big downgrade.

I really dig the comics, but I've been reading them since year one. The show is ridiculously awful though. There's a suspension of disbelief and a little bit of allowing for Southern survival culture to seep in in the books, but it works really well. They've gotten to the point in the books now where they've built two of their own villages and have established trade between three villages total. A lot is done on horseback.

addendum: "There's always a roach in my slenderman undies" is some high octane gibberish.
