Zach Hill's amazing. If you haven't had the chance, try to find his album Face Tat. I personally like more than anything I've heard from Death Grips.

Oh. Of course somebody put it on youtube.

Oh for the days when I'd have to specially order this stuff.

Zesty, you like story time. I saw Hella either on this tour on the one right after. Zack Hill demolished the set while wearing some weird lederhosen outfit, hat and all. Make Believe (meh) opened for them and the lead singer punched me in the face with the mic and tried to hang me from the rafters from his mic cord. True story. There's probably video footage of it somewhere.

Also just realized that this wasn't an old school submission. Holy wow.

it is unfair how good these guys are. fucking unfair.

what happened to music like this. anyone remember paper rad and dr. doo and like uhhhhhhh extreme animals and stuff that scene was fun i guess it's all gone grown ups :(

Old_Zircon - 2014-09-28

People are still doing it but most of it seems rote and redundant these days.

I think lightning bolt's still playing (fun fact they played in a house I was living at years ago) and Death Grips ran its course, pissing off its fanbase by declaring themselves dead and then doing a commercial for Adidas. It's weird: the scene's de trop like "punk." I always wished I could've been old enough to see X, The Nuns, the Weirdos, etc. at the Masque, or even Jesus Lizard if I was old enough, but at least I got to see Lightning Bolt, Hella, etc. in my early 20s. Those were crazy shows. The fun of those shows still lives on in basement shows and smaller venues. A few bands I'd recommend are Psychedelic Horseshit and Mayyors, but I think the latter's broken up now. I've been sort of out of the loop with non-local-to-my-area bands since 2012 or so, when the one festival I liked going to shut down (didn't hurt that it was for 3 days) which makes me sad.

Lightning Bolt are still around, to be honest I was never totally in love with their stuff, though. Last show I played with them I went home before they went on, in fact. I saw Chippendale's newer band Black Pus a few weeks ago and it was god but doesn't really move me anymore. The RHD band Psycle totally blew them out of the water, in my book:

love lightning bolt

That's so cool. I work for a small nonprofit choir for adults with developmental disabilities, and I've wanted to expand into rock bands (we mainly stick with musicals) for some time now. More often than not, the students and I get to talking about music they listen to at home or on the bus and we like the same stuff! But the board's skeptical, of course, of the venues, etc. I might pass this along.

Old_Zircon - 2014-09-29

They rule. The only reason I'm not working with them myself is that whenever RHD is hiring it's always a position that requires you to wn a car. It seems like 2/3 of the people I know either work there or have worked there in the past.

We encourage public transportation (I'm a respite caregiver as well) but usually the facilities have company cars or vans to go places you can't get to via bus, streetcar, etc. I tend to go on dates with people who work in the field, and suffice it to say, I wouldn't want anybody to have to sit in the back seat. Unless it's for company errands, which makes sense.
