In the future, William Shatner and one of My Two Dads will wear ugly clothes.

duck&cover - 2014-09-29

In the future, people will run into invisible walls all the time.

I...kinda liked Tekwar as a kid. I stumbled across it, oddly enough, right after watching an episode of MST3K back in something like 93 or 94. It was not a show, but a series of two hour movies for TV, just like a bunch of other shows including the prototype for the Kevin Sorbo Hercules. It was a weird experiment to make these serialized TV movies, I think it was called the Action Pak.

Anyway, this might have been my first exposure to Cyberpunk anything. As dumb as it seems now, I dug it at a stupid kid.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2014-09-29

It wasn't an experiment to make serialized shows. It was something we used to have before cable TV called "syndication."

Aelric - 2014-09-29

They were two hour shows, not the typical hour long ones, and they were all branded as 'movies' in the ads. This is BEFORE Hercules was on every channel, which is what Syndication means (and still exists to some extent).

Dr Robot - 2014-09-29

I think the word you're both looking for is "serial".

BHWW - 2014-09-29

I remember coming across a couple of those Tek movies back when - some of the writing was at Garth Marenghi levels of quality, like Greg Evigan's character being angrily berated by his former police superior, telling him that unlike our maverick hero "I play by the rules!" Que our hero snarling back something like "Then join a band!" before storming off in a huff.

Or some smug android police detective telling our hero that he's keeping an eye on him, looking for any reason to send him back to a cryogenic prison facility and put him "back between the frozen peas and carrots".

Kid Fenris - 2014-09-29

I saw Tekwar after I'd been through some other cyberpunk stuff, so it felt pretty tame. Shadowrun had mutant trolls with cyberarms and fireball-throwing street shamans! Tekwar just had the Intel Inside commercial and special effects straight from the 3DO demos at Best Buy.

Maggot Brain - 2014-09-29

Feels like the kind of thing that would run Sunday afternoons on UPN.

The Mothership - 2014-09-30

exactly.

Binro the Heretic - 2014-09-29

I thought we all agreed never to speak of Tekwar ever again?

ashtar. - 2014-09-29

Those who do not learn from Tekwar are doomed to repeat Tekwar

Wander - 2014-09-29

I'm just so tired of all these Tek wars

cognitivedissonance - 2014-09-29

DON'T MENTION THE SHATNERS, BASIL

casualcollapse - 2014-09-29

You were never in Tekwars.... Wander.. my brother has a print .....Wander.. you don't smoke...

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2014-09-29

The Tekwar never really ended. It lives on in our memories. Remember those that suffered under its wrath.

garcet71283 - 2014-09-29

Tekwar, what is it good for?

oddeye - 2014-09-29

Well I think it looks kinda neat. William Shatner marches around in a pretty commanding way.

Scrimmjob - 2014-09-29

My first exposure to Tek War was when I found the Tek War computer game in the super deep discount bargain bin. The game was worth 2 dollars, just for the sheer stupidity factor.

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2014-09-29

It's been here before but with god awful tags.

ashtar. - 2014-09-29

Oh man, even beat me to my dumb Simpsons reference.

oswaldtheluckyrabbit
Well, the children have to learn about Tek War sometime.

infinite zest - 2014-09-29

Those are the best tags ever. 5 for possible linkage, and future linkage.

Old_Zircon - 2014-09-29

Oh man I forgot they'd made this into a show. I'll have to watch some of these after I finish the second half of Netforce.

Caminante Nocturno - 2014-09-29

Tekwar never changes.

oswaldtheluckyrabbit - 2014-09-29

five for description

fluffy - 2014-09-29

music of THE FUTURE

also there was a video game based on the novels too. it was pretty shitty but it at least did one thing that no FPS I've seen before or since does: if you have your weapon unholstered in a public area, people freak out, and you're supposed to actually put your weapon away when you're not intending to kill anyone, GO FIGURE. I don't think even the GTA games do that.

The Mothership - 2014-09-30

In the mid 90s back issues of the comic book sold for below cover price.
