They say the word cracker comes from whip cracker or something like that. I would really like to hear the origin story of the word honky, because it seems like it could be hilarious.

Who is this "they"? I learned the soda cracker version: dumb but at least vaguely insulting. But "whip cracker"?!?!?!?! Why yes, boy, I _am_ a whip cracker. Best mind your manners.

Again, and I think the Black Panthers agree with me on this point, the word is Honky.

The only version I've heard offered with conviction is "whip cracker", but it's possible that's merely a popular misconception (like "faggots were burned at the stake", which is a very popular piece of etymythology where I'm from)

I think Honky comes from prostitution: white dudes would go to the ghettos and instead of getting out of their cars they'd just honk their horns and wait for the prostitute instead of going into the speakeasys and such.

Zest is correct. It wasn't just prostitution, but also if you pulled up to a chick's house and didn't want to deal with her cracker-hating father.

My great grandma who was Slovenian used to make "hunky" meals, like "hunky" spaghetti or "hunky" soup. They were basically just low quality versions of the real thing. She used ketchup and butter for the spaghetti sauce.
