It's a shirt that contains pictures of sylized women on them.

Yes, so sexist. Sexist because he finds women attractive. Brilliant.

People who get worked up over shit like this should just fucking snuff it already. You are not for this world.

5 for evil

Gmork - 2014-11-16

http://imgur.com/qiwrR5N this is a better view of the shirt in question

Some people just feel the need to be perpetually offended by trivial things.

Meerkat - 2014-11-16

I can see some of my ex-coworkers finding that offensive. Then again, I have had to change the "Abort" button to "Cancel" on numerous occasions.

The pictured shirt would get a reprimand at any company I have worked for. It is contributing to a hostile work environment for women.

infinite zest - 2014-11-16

Thanks for the resubmit. Mine was an annoying CNN bit that repeated itself halfway through (why does that happen anyway?) The other one I put in the hopper is Thunderf00t's take on it, and should never get out of the hopper, but I put it there for a reason (spoiler alert it's Anita Sarkeesian's fault via Kim Kardashian)

infinite zest - 2014-11-16

I worked at a pretty prestigious arts organization some years back, mostly on the phones behind a wall and the entire interview he was telling me that I didn't have to wear Armani suits like the big guys upstairs, but that I shouldn't dress in anything offensive, even on fridays. So I said "yeah. I won't wear my Big Johnson t-shirt to work." and we had a laugh. At the end the interviewer said something like "well you emailed us your resume so you're good at computers, so welcome aboard." The entire interview was about dress code.

And there was a reason for this. Given our public nature, we'd often have to greet the press at the door and be the first impression. And even if I was celebrating a successful landing and didn't know I'd be interviewed but was called up, the first thing I'd do is change out of that shirt, or at least hope someone beforehand would say something. On a "sexist" scale though, that shirt rates a 2/10 and just looks like a funny shirt Ricky from TPB would wear. Have you worked at Spencer's Gifts? "Drunk? Blow here" with an arrow pointing to the crotch. And I worked at a spencer's gifts. We could sell it but we couldn't wear it.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2014-11-16

What really annoys me is the morons claiming that feminists are basically saying he deserves "being attacked because of what he wore."

That's right, jackholes. Someone saying you wore something inappropriate for whatever reason = sexual assault. Well done, you.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-11-16

I know most of you are atheists, but I think God is clearly fucking with those of us who assumed that nothing could possibly be stupider than #GamerGate. You guys all know what a hardcore white knight I am, right? Well I just got banned from r/GamerGhazi, for not taking the matter of the shirt seriously enough.

Thank you for making a scientist cry, and millons of feminists look like assholes. The gaters are bouyed, and feminists are attacking each other, because of the stupidest internet controversy I've seen, and yes, internet controversies are the gold standard for stupid. Please do feminism a favor, and become misogynists.

infinite zest - 2014-11-16

Ironically, this shirt is causing much more controversy than a game-related one, where one of the developers of Hatred was wearing a Neo Nazi t-shirt. That's kind of fucked up, considering that they're developing a game like Hatred, which in all reality could lead to real-life violence on planet earth should players decide to mimic it. But it was forgotten almost immediately.

infinite zest - 2014-11-17

I honestly didn't see this being so blown out of proportion. I think what people are missing is that he APOLOGIZED.

Gmork - 2014-11-17

"should players decide to mimic it"

Do we really have to go through the "games as a cause of violence" logical fallacy again?

Really???

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-11-17

>>I honestly didn't see this being so blown out of proportion. I think what people are missing is that he APOLOGIZED.

I think that what you're missing is that he CRIED. It was a disaster. It was a Kanye West moment. It was perceived as arrogantly grabbing the microphone and taking a shit all over someone else's moment of glory, because of an inflated sense of self-importance. And trust me, the fact that he had to APOLOGIZE for being shit on is lost on no one.

It's been five years. Nobody ever forgot what Kanye West did at the VMAs. I can't name a single song or album, but I've alluded to the event many times in here "This is the greatest cat video of all time. OF ALL TIME!"

It's not about the poor scientist anymore. GamerGaters are declaring victory, calculating, correctly in my view, that this will embarass the hated "SJWs". Where they err, I hope, is in the belief that this will somehow translate into more respect and legitimacy for them, making them somehow less loathesome.

SO OF COURSE the butthurt feminists are responding by responding by reflexively holding onto their position, the way a severed head of a Gila Monster will still hold onto your ankle. Feminists who disagree are automatically declared misogynist trolls. This is how I got banned from r/GamerGhazi I wasn't picking fights or anything. I was essentially laughing at the Gaters who were declaring this their big defining moment. It never occurred to me that anybody in the Anti GamerGate reddit would be prepared to make a big deal over the silly shirt.

infinite zest - 2014-11-17

It's not the best analogy but it should be noted that THAT shirt in question supports real violence which the game's in-game violence condones and rewards. And that's something to potentially get upset about. JHM's Kanye analogy's better for Taylor's situation.

Spaceman Africa - 2014-11-16

Dude wore that tacky-ass shirt solely for attention because in interviews right before this he's wearing a regular polo.

infinite zest - 2014-11-16

Not necessarily. He got a tattoo of Rosetta and Philae on his leg and posted selfies while getting the tattoo in a Cannibal Corpse t-shirt.

Caminante Nocturno - 2014-11-16

Intelligent people don't get upset over shirts. There has never been a case where an intelligent person got so upset over a shirt, that they felt they had to do something about it. Only dumb people do that.

Spaceman Africa - 2014-11-16

This is not true.

infinite zest - 2014-11-16

Are they doing something about it? Is that the reason why Philae ran out of batteries? #shirtgate!

I had a professor back in college who wore all black almost every day, fitting because he was best known for teaching Satre, Nietzsche and the bunch, but once every now and then he'd wear a very loud and crazy shirt like this, just out of the blue, giving the exact same lecture. Us students loved it but the higher-ups in the philosophy department made him stop doing it.

Gmork - 2014-11-17

Cam is 100% right about this.

BHWW - 2014-11-16

I'll criticize him for deciding to hell with anything resembling decorum - this is a serious moment and this bearded doofus decides to wear a bowling shirt that makes him look like a Dungeons & Dragons enthusiast attending some local comic convention - why didn't he just go ahead and get even more unprofessional and wear a utilikit and a flame-patterned fedora with it?

Apparently a lady friend of his designed the shirt for him and he wanted to wear it on TV for her in order to show it off, which OK, fine, but still one should ask if it's not in poor taste to wear such a thing.

But, and it's a big but some people are really overreacting to this OMG a bearded quasi-hipster looking goofball wore a tacky shirt on TV, he should lose his job for this, the cishetero hate-riarchal fucklord!!!!

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-11-17

When you've landed a space probe on a comet, you can come to work dressed in a Speedo and a Darth Vader helmet... you're still the man., and this is your moment.

That's the thing that makes this so fucking horrible. His moment, man! It's just so heartless and humorless.

There's footage of engineers after one the viking landings on Mars in the seventies wearing (of course) Viking helmets with horns sticking out of them. Because it's time for celebrating, and letting off a little steam.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-11-17

You know what this is? This is Kanye West at the Video Music Award, taking the mike from Taylor Swift,. but a hundred times worse. It's not just being offended by the shirt, it's acting like your problem with the shirt is the important thing going on here, and and everything else can wait.

TeenerTot - 2014-11-17

I think some of the trouble is, that people *didn't* overreact. Some women (including myself) thought the shirt was inappropriate and would like to tell the guy "hey, not a great choice of clothing." But I guess a woman pointing out inappropriateness to a man is a huge fucking controversy, right?

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-11-17

What's hugely fucking inappropriate is making this historic moment about his goddamn shirt.

>>What really annoys me is the morons claiming that feminists are basically saying he deserves "being attacked because of what he wore."

>>That's right, jackholes. Someone saying you wore something inappropriate for whatever reason = sexual assault. Well done, you.

The thing is, when women are attacked for what they're wearing, it isn't usually sexual assault. More often, it's "Fox and Friends" talking about Hillary Clinton's "cleavage" or dipshits on the internet claiming that Anita Sarkeesian is a hypocrite for wearing makeup (if she wasn't wearing it, they'd attack her for being an ugly feminist who is bitter about not being able to get laid) or that Lacey Green should expect rude comments for not treating her breasts like they're some kind of secret. This is absolutely going to encourage that shit, and make challenging that shit more difficult.

Gmork - 2014-11-17

Vikings raped a lot of people. Killed more.

Gmork - 2014-11-17

Teener - it's not your place (or a man's place) to tell someone what fucking shirt to wear.

Live your own life and stay the fuck out of everyone else's if that's how you feel. You're just the other end of the spectrum - you sound no different to me than a religious conservative that wants other people to change their ways of expression.

Get some goddamn perspective, teener. I didnt' see any naked women on his shirt, just beautiful women. Do you have a problem with beautiful women? Are you aware a woman friend of his designed the shirt for him?

I didn't take offense to it. Plenty of women didn't take offense to it.

Sounds like the issue is that you need to get over what other people decide to wear. Especially if its not actually inappropriate.

TeenerTot - 2014-11-17

Gmork
I'm not telling him what fucking shirt to wear.
Thanks for drilling home my point.

MacGyver Style Bomb - 2014-11-16

Not so much for people being upset at the shirt, but for people being upset that there are people upset at the shirt. Every big internet shitstorm right there.

spikestoyiu - 2014-11-16

Being offended has replaced baseball as America's pastime.

Nominal - 2014-11-16

Being offended AT baseball!

Adham Nu'man - 2014-11-16

I am offended by this bullshit.

ashtar. - 2014-11-16

How dare you be offended! I'm offended at you being offended! Free speech!

Hooker - 2014-11-16

Lucky probe, what with no longer having to live on this planet.

TeenerTot - 2014-11-17

Seconded.

StanleyPain - 2014-11-17

It's worth pointing out to all the manbabies in this thread who are crying over their apparently severed penises or whatever that, by far and away, the people making a bigger deal over than this than some perceived cabal of offended politically correct people are shitbag sexists attempting to stoke this for as much fire as they can get out of it to rile up the socially retarded internet warrior brigade of anonymous, misogynist keyboard warriors. In the real world, this controversy was over and done with when the scientist genuinely apologized for wearing the tacky shirt.

But hey, keep complaining about how "NO ONE EVER GETS TO DO ANYTHING ANYMORE BECAUSE WAHHHH YOU HAVE TO SUFFER FOR YOUR POOR PUBLIC DECISIONS NOW UNLIKE BACK WHEN WOMENS WERE QUIETER"

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-11-17

I find this post to be incredibly confusing. In fact, I think I may agree.

Gmork - 2014-11-17

If you think this shirt is inappropriate, you are a moron.

End of discussion.

Hooker - 2014-11-17

The guy was brought to tears over this incident. Elizabeth Gibney, a "feminist science journalist," said regarding this:

Said he made a big mistake and is v sorry. Then moved on to Philae science. Good stuff.

https://twitter.com/LizzieGibney/status/533249887996248064

I don't _really_ give a shit about this and I would personally be mortified if I somehow wound up wearing that shirt in public and would make negative assumptions about people I don't know and have never met if I saw them wearing that, but when you bring a guy to tears in his moment of unique triumph and then respond with the sentiment of "good stuff," it makes it very difficult to see your side as the moral one.

Pillager - 2014-11-18

http://online.wsj.com/articles/rosetta-probe-directly-discovers-or ganic-molecules-on-comet-1416256078?tesla=y

Massively important scientific discoveries made. Feminists hyperfocus on a gaudy bowling shirt. ??? The SJWs are getting to be as crazy as the Tea Party. Matt Taylor had nothing to apologize for.

That guy - 2014-11-17

In the whole shit-storm of this thread, how has no one mentioned how tragically fucking ugly the shirt is???

Everyone should be aesthetically offended to the core.

infinite zest - 2014-11-18

Hey I did! In my comparison to Big Johnson and half the shit you'd find at the Spencer's Gifts I used to work at. I'd be equally offended if he was wearing a Dragon Ball Z shirt to be honest.

jimmyboblahey - 2014-11-17

Casual sexism. Pfft. Wake me when this nigga goes hardcore.

Hazelnut - 2014-11-18

For TenerTot, StanleyPain, and SteamPowerdCleenex. They know why.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-11-18

People oppressed by video game reviews, meet people oppressed by gaudy bowling shirts.

Truly, we are all brothers... uh, siblings.
