yes. I never gave the Butthole Surfers that much attention, because Pepper was sort of that song that was all over the radio like Cake's Going the Distance when I was a kid. Most punks go country but I hate that song.

fedex - 2014-11-18 They Came In is my favorite BS song

infinite zest - 2014-11-18 Yeah. They were an incredible band. I guess it's kind of like the Flaming Lips: their early stuff like Hear It Is or pretty much anything off of Restless is more my style, but then they got big with a different song, whose name I dare not speak but you can probably guess. But it's stuck in my head and I can sing it by memory :)
Same with Soundgarden. I just searched out their earlier stuff and it was way cooler than the song that made them a ton of money. The "song" here is more what I like personally. I was once in a band where we all decided to take 3 hits about two hours before and didn't make it through a single song but it was kind of an amazing experience we could never replicate.

i'm with frank - 2014-11-19 I view this site because of the interesting comments from generally rational people watching accidents in russia and what not; the videos are generally secondary. You're ok in my book zest.

Boomer The Dog - 2014-11-19 Jiingle Of A Dog's Collar from BS and Cookiepuss from Beasties would be the songs I'd want them to play.
I've been thinking of old rap with the death of Big Bank Hank from Sugarhill Gang, doing a radio tribute and playing some old school.
You're the best, Zest, don't listen to that guy. Lord love him though.

Old_Zircon - 2014-11-19 Pepper/electriclarryland is where I lost interest, everything before Piouhgd is well in the running for my favorite rock music ever, and I've been into Locust Abortion Technician consistently for longer than any album I've ever heard - got a tape in 6th or 7th grade and never looked back. Piouhgd is pretty decent, Independent Worm Saloon has its moments, but it's the Touch N Go stuff and Pee Pee the Sailor/Brown Reason to Live that are the ones. I'd say start with Rembrandt Pussyhorse or Hairway to Steven, they're good entry points but every single album they did before 1990 is absolutely brilliant.

Old_Zircon - 2014-11-19 Good call on Soundgarden, the Flower EP is great and Badmotorfinger is a good album; the one with Black Hole Sun on it I don't think I've ever even listened to all the way through.
Monster Magnet is another ban like that, I had no interest in them back in the 90s but years later I heard Tab 25 and it's a pretty good piece of Hawkwind-like 90s space metal.
Also in bands who peaked well before they got famous in the 90s: White Zombie. Seriously, listen to some of their first mid 80s singles.

Old_Zircon - 2014-11-19 Also this video reminds me why I couldn't have given less of a shit about the Beastie Boys when I was growing up, although I like them OK now.

infinite zest - 2014-11-19 Hey Boomer, is there a way that I can listen to your station all the way across the country?
|
|
Old_Zircon - 2014-11-19 Do you know about Mixcloud, Boomer?
|
Boomer The Dog - 2014-11-19 Hi Zest, I don't have a stream of it, except we've done some test streams before. The station takes a different approach than others who put everything online, the idea that as a very local station it should be heard locally, to not lose its focus.
It's on AM 24 hours a day, nothing live, but once a week Ric and me go on for a live show. You can hear Ric and Boom, since our aircheck file from this week's show has been uploaded for Ric's review.

It probably won't play in your browser if you just click it on that page, it's meant to be a raw review file. Try it if you want to hear Ric and me yapping about all kinds of things, and 80s rap this week. The show is prepped for, and done live with no editing later.
I looked at Mixcloud, good selection of stuff, I was looking at the shows from London. I haven't tried to listen in.
