The best way to sum up this movie:

"... Pablo Neruda." *staring out at the ocean*

I think my dinner with andre is actually an okay movie.
The characters come off as actually interesting people that engage you somewhat (at least they did when I was 19).

This piece of shit I've somehow managed to see two or three times. It's laughably pretentious.

Old_Zircon - 2014-11-28

I've never actually watched either of them.

The thing is, Andre is a dubious comedy. You aren't really sure if this movie is sincere or facetious. Andre is clearly a broken, talentless schizophrenic, and Wally has a history of using him for career purposes and is obviously unsuccessful and in the wrong business. They think they're men of the soil, real earnest American dreamers, in a posh restaurant being waited on by an elderly man. Wallace Shawn is the son of an editor of the New Yorker, he is incredibly well educated and aware of the fine line between pretension and subtle satire.

The real "My Dinner With Andre" would be "My Dinner With Ben Stein", where two very similar men of incredibly divergent opinions, Shawn and Stein, bicker over the cosmos and refuse to tip.

I've always kind of assumed I'd like My Dinner with Andre, actually, I just never got around to it.

You probably would. This, however, is a steaming pile.

So you'd probably like it too!

the white people tag has never been used more aptly.

Dinkin Flicka - 2014-12-01

Because no one except 'white people' could conceivably walk for hours waxing philosophical.
