I think out of all the Bonds, Moore got the shittiest movies (Golden Gun, Live and Let Die being probably the worst) so it was cool he got to go out on this one and then For Your Eyes before it (which was a nice, more traditional espionage story).

On an unrelated note, I remember when this movie was still fairly new Walken did a great SNL hosting gig where, among other things, he played a Bond villain whose lair and deadly traps were still "on order." It was cute.

I've always been a Moore fan, and probably why I dislike the Craig movies. I like the camp, which Connery also gave into at times, and think it's integral to James Bond. The Craig movies, while not bad in themselves, just feel like Bourne or a more brutal Jack Ryan by skewing way too far into "real world" espionage and skullduggery, and not the comically idealized spies of Moore, Connery and Brosnan (who was created to play Bond, but just ended up in a bad period for the series, aside for Goldeneye). But, the times and the audiences change.

I get the feeling that Spectre is probably going to change some of that for the newer Bonds. If they're going to re-introduce Blofeld and all that, then my guess is they have realized there is no future for these movies if they do not, in some way, reconnect with the older films stylistically.

Oh boy, Walken with the machine gun, laughing diabolically. This is when you know a Bond film is FUN.

I too like View To A Kill and that's partly because Walken's character was a terrific villian with a properly dastardly plan. If you take out the silly Beach Boys/ski opening and the absurd fire truck chase, it's one of the great Bond entries.

In fact the last 3 Moore entries are all a blast - Octopussy (my favourite of all), For Your Eyes Only and View To A Kill.

Octopussy was one of the first movies I remember seeing, I've got a real soft spot for it.

Good theme song as well.

I thought Tanya Roberts was the hottest Bond girl when I was a kid. Not the best, mind you. Just the hottest. Razzie award or not, she was my favorite reason to sit through this.
