I'm pretty sure this was a Half-Life 2 level.

Half-Life 1

Freeman! Speaking of Half-Life, I loved 1, but I can't understand why 2 was like the best game ever made. All I remember is incredibly scripted action sequences (instead of the first one's more natural AI movement), really easy puzzles, riding around on the boat thing like a really easy boat thing from Battletoads, and a cool physics engine that was wasted on the fact that you didn't so much throw objects but drop them towards things. And I know the game's a little old, but the plot was incredibly Orwellian cliche, vs. HL1's super creative one, especially for its time.

I enjoyed the plot, the pacing, the driving, and even the shooting felt somehow new and refreshing. That was ten years ago, now. Damn, 10 years, where did the time go...

That's a good point. First time I played it was a couple of weeks ago in 2014, as I got him Portal for Christmas and the others came along with it. HL1 blew my mind because I was like 16 and was sort of expecting another FPS with a plot I couldn't care less about, just kill kill kill and hit the button, and all of a sudden I'm in the headspace of some scientist guy. And at 16, I don't think I knew what Orwellian meant, or at least I hadn't read any of his books. Much like the Arcade Fire's Funeral, I understand why it was so important to the evolution of modern games as their album was to music. Maybe I'll get past that Helicopter and see what happens :)

Is it just me or does it sound like he's doing this for an entire crowd of Ninja Turtles?
