That's almost as bad as having the sun in your eyes during your morning drive to work.

My daily commute includes a poorly kept, two lane, rural, Nova Scotian highway that often sits right next to water. There hasn't been a pile-up as long as I've lived here, but I'm still fairly certain this is how I will die. Thankfully, at least, people here invest in winter tires.

magnesium - 2015-01-12 I basically drive halfway up the 103, these days. I am hoping to relocate to Halifax sooner or later.
|
Wonko the Sane - 2015-01-12 I've seen small pileups on St. Margarets bay Road / 3. So many tight turns and fog make it inevitable.

Damn.

Chancho - 2015-01-11
So...why exactly were people driving at high speeds on icy roads in reduced visibility?

The trick to driving in dangerous conditions is to speed up so that you get home, and off the road, faster.

SolRo - 2015-01-11 America seems to be winning the car pileup race...I cant find any mention of 100+ car pileups in Russia.

The thought of something like this happening is exactly why I take the back roads to and from work in bad weather.

Who's gonna clean up this mess!?!?

When tractor trailers crash in real life it's not so Hollywoody; it's more scaryy.
|
Nominal - 2015-01-12 The biggest difference is the sharp CRACK sound a real car accident makes, rather than the movie sound of throwing a shopping cart full of cans down the stairs.
Anyone who's ever been in an accident cringes and feels sick when they hear that sound.
|
SolRo - 2015-01-12 umm, neither of those descriptions are right.
a real crash is a loud thud with crinkly sounds while Hollywood crashes are like a dumpster pushed into a wall.

This wouldn't happen if all cars were at least semi-automated.
