I never played this game, but I know it's a Big Gamer Cred Thing, I just never knew how utterly shit the animation was.

SolRo - 2015-01-16

I meant the modeling and art, drunk posting!

Quad9Damage - 2015-01-16

Was this a step above or a step below the old topdown 2D animations? All I know is that it was 1997. I remember orgasms over how 'great' Resident Evil looked.

Quad9Damage - 2015-01-16

I also remember lugging around my bloated polygonal dwarf in the game and how some of the prerendered cutscenes would try to mimic the polygonal dwarfism look.

I still like Everquest's OG graphics from 1999, but I've realized that is because of good texture artists and how good the lighting effects were, rather than the 3D models or animations.

StanleyPain - 2015-01-16

The animation was pretty good back in those days (especially for a pre-rendered thing on multiple discs), but despite FF7s status as some kind of classic (just because more people were exposed to it than the older ones), it wasn't really a very good game. I mean I think most FF fans of the time, like me, played through it and everything, but the 3-D just felt weird and the whole thing didn't really live up the narrative standards of the older games, probably because they were trying so hard to compete with overly complicated anime stories or some shit. I dunno. FF7 is not terrible but it's pretty mediocre really. Wild ARMS came out shortly before FF7 did (terrible timing) but it was a much better, traditional JRPG that never really got the reputation it deserved.

Kid Fenris - 2015-01-16

Late-1990s games were fated to age conspicuously if they tried making realistically proportioned characters out of polygons. The only exception that comes to to mind is Vagrant Story.

Wild ARMs was incredibly bland, and I suspect it only became a series because a) Sony wanted a first-party RPG line and b) Wild ARMs was better than Beyond the Beyond.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2015-01-16

This is a total rip-off of "Marble Madness."

memedumpster - 2015-01-16

I watched Guardians of the Galaxy recently and all I could think about was what an amazing Marble Madness movie I was watching.

Nominal - 2015-01-16

FF 7 had the most non sensical plot in the series, and Im including 8 and 14 in that considerstion.

ashtar. - 2015-01-16

Sephiroth would be a cool user name.

Sexy Duck Cop - 2015-01-16

SeFEARoth would be a good Halloween user name.

EvilHomer - 2015-01-16

My fursona is a purple-grey wolf with Sephiroth hair and a Sephiroth sword and also he's Sephiroth.

Caminante Nocturno - 2015-01-16

Everybody knows that Yuffie was the best character, anyway.

EvilHomer - 2015-01-16

FFVII sucked, anyway. RYDIA IS BEST CHARACTER.

EvilHomer - 2015-01-16

And what makes you say that Yuffie was the best FFVII character? I won't disagree; she was a kunoichi hybrid between Scootaloo and Rebecca Chambers, which is A-OK in my books! But that doesn't seem like something *you'd* mark for. Yes, she is the most underage character (which I know is important to you), but not by much. Wouldn't you prefer Tifa and Aerith, the Twilight Sparkle/ AJ and Twilight Sparkle/ Cadence, respectively?

Kid Fenris - 2015-01-17

I feel bad for the people who played through the entire game without recruiting Yuffie, which was actually possible. I guess they wanted to make her and Vincent like Shadow or Gogo or Umaro from Final Fantasy VI, but c'mon.

Braze - 2015-01-16

I knew this game sucked before it was cool to know that

Herr Matthias - 2015-01-16

I recently played through both FF7 and FF8 for the first time (shut up) when they became available on Steam. FF8 is by far the superior game and I think gets a lot of the shit that should really be directed at FF7. The FF8 storyline is no worse than a middle-of-the-road science fiction movie; the FF7 storyline makes absolutely no sense at all.

Quad9Damage - 2015-01-21

I bought the Steam FF7. Then I ragequit after Square Enix's forced log in/online authentication screen.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2015-01-17

Wow, this game's FMVs haven't aged well at all.

I remember thinking this looked AMAZING back in 1997 though.

(Also, fuck you, FFVII is a great game.)
