Just goes to show how by 1995 all the best Simpsons bits had already aired.

I thought it was the baby from the beginning and all of my friends thought I was stupid. It wasn't because I followed all of the clues or anything like that, but it just seemed like a typical Simpsons joke, like how Maggie's usually the smartest person in the room, combined with the Scooby Doo nature of the mystery. I vaguely remember watching this special. Could you actually bet money on the killer? I was only 13 so I couldn't if I wanted to, and my parents couldn't have given a shit about The Simpsons.. I guess I just felt kind of cool for being right about something, but cash would've been nice too.
Oh. I found this:
That wasn't me, I was not "in the internet" in 1995, but I was on BBS..
Yeah I immediately guessed Maggie too. He was telling the killer to "give me that" right before he was shot, which mirrored him telling a baby to give him its candy earlier on in the episode.
Shit were the odds on Maggie really 100:1?
(yeah fake I know)
I also remember thinking that this was sort of the Simpsons' swan song, that Mr. Burns was dead (I'm glad he didn't die because he had plenty of good moments throughout S7 and S8) and they were going to continue with more elaborate stories that would sort of wrap things up in the next couple of years. Le sigh..
I didn't have this internet dealie at the time, but according to my local paper, "fans on the World Wide Web" were split between Smithers and Maggie as the culprits.
Not because of any clever reading of the clues, but just because "most likely suspect" and "least likely suspect" are always the most popular options.
The rest of the time, it's usually some deranged lunatic who does it for no reason.
Actually, this show was my first introduction to MST3K because it was showing on the TV in Moe's bar and I didn't know what show it was and asked around.
Really? I'm assuming when Smithers is getting drunk and watching Comedy Central all day? I might need to rewatch that episode now. I only remember MST3K from SciFi Channel on. I had the opposite, where I tried to figure out where I could watch Pardon My Zinger, only to find out later that it was a made up show.
The upside down "W S" (from Burns' perspective) would probably have been enough for me if I was older, but at the time meant as much to me as the name U.N.Owen was when I was reading Agatha Christie.

It took me a while, but I was able to guess who killed Laura Palmer (Twin Peaks) by asking myself which possible answer would be most horrible.
Yeah, I think I would've had it figured out.. my parents watched the shit out of twin peaks and spoiled it for me when I was a kid so I already knew the basics of what happened before I watched it myself. I assume this happens all the time these days. I still won't spoil it for anyone but if you had a facebook, were on poeTV, or had the capability of hearing about 8 months ago, you probably know how True Detective S1 ended. Everyone wanted a Twin Peaks and what they got was the most logical culprit. I remember calling it too, because another surprise twist had been done so many times by then.
