I believe her when she says she didn't know what the word meant. A 110-year-old woman might think that Lady Gaga sounds like black people, and that calling black people "jiggaboos" is fine (especially when sitting right next to one). But to those of us who never sent Jefferson Davis a birthday card, it just doesn't add up.

It got pulled already.. there's a shitty one but I'm sure there'll be a better one soon. Honestly, I don't think I've ever heard that word used outside of that Jay-Z song (and some other hip hop songs) and didn't know that it was a pejorative necessarily, just something that rhymes with something else, until I looked it up. Urbandictionary isn't always the best source, but I never made the connection, I just knew that you shouldn't say it. Maybe it skipped a generation or two. I dunno.

"You're not a man, you're a Chicken Boo." Tell me there's not a racist undertone to "Animaniacs".

Holy crap, Bort. I never put those two things together but you are totally right.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2015-02-23
it makes the one where the blonde teenage girl brings home Chicken Boo all the creepier.

You know, since she brought home "one of those".

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2015-02-23
also they have a Christmas skit called "Jingle Boo" so man they weren't even trying to hide it all that much.

Plus the episode where they call him a "spear clucker".

Woah! In some ways I got the thinly-veiled "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" reference in those cartoons.. Just.. Woah.

Bort - 2015-02-24
And they called him a "cluckaninny" that other time.

By the way, I'm making these up as I can think of them, but they aren't much of a stretch when your starting point is "Chicken Boo", are they?

Haha I figured as much.. I wonder if a lot of those writers went on to write for shows like Family Guy and the like. Animaniacs always seemed stuck. Like, it's a kids show but let's write in a bunch of references that only parents would probably get in an attempt to show off our adult humor skills. Back then, "adult" animation was pretty much The Simpsons, The Critic or Hentai, save for the myriad prime time animated shows that were cancelled after one season. This could be frustrating for a writer who's written him or herself into the animated realm, and I could see someone just snapping and saying "fuck it, I'm just going to do something incredibly racist and see if anybody notices."

It's hard to tell what's going on in this vid with all of these jiggaboo watermarks. It's very nice though.

She obviously meant to say "juggalo."
