Replying so this link is higher (more visible).

It looks like the local news found out who the pilot was and his co-workers ratted him out.

I have an uncle who was a TWA pilot for decades and a good friend of my family has been a flight attendant since the mid 90s and worked for most of the major US airlines and I'm comfortable saying that, based on reports from them, this is nothing.
kingarthur - 2015-03-01
I'd also like to point out that, in business textbooks, whenever they want to point to an example of liability fails when it comes to employee insensitivity they seem to always have an airline to point to.

Old_Zircon - 2015-03-01
My favorite firsthand accounts I've heard are:

-Someone not attaching the trailer to one of those luggage trucks right so it came off, rolled a few thousand yards across the runway, and slammed in to the engine of a plane waiting at the gate. Everyone pretended they didn't see anything and the plane took off later that day without any sort of inspection or anything

-The common practice (at least on Delta) of disregarding people's requests for regular vs. decaf coffee and just giving everyone in the plane regular or deaf depending on whether you want them to calm down or not.

-Any flight attendant can kick off any passenger for any reason. They have the final authority. The attendant I know has stopped takeoff and kicked people off for swearing at him before.

From the studios that gave you "Three Men and a Baby", it's ... "Eleven Fucking Over-the-Top Ass-Fucking Homosexuals and a Granny"!

My stars are for the dog at 1:44. Why was the pilot suspended for this?
Prickly Pete - 2015-03-01
For this very reason.

If you didn't see the video before, skipping to 1:44 changes the whole context.

I'm not defending the guy or anything, but I heard a similar conversation last time I flew, on Midwest which is basically the same as Southwest I believe. At least then one of the radio stations was the just the transmissions and once in a while they'd get pretty raunchy, like a trucker on a CB. Personally, I don't care about my trucker or airplane guy's personal life, as long as the job's done and the truck gets there or the I don't die in a plane crash or my little UPS shit is delivered on time..

"Personally, I don't care about my trucker or airplane guy's personal life, as long as the job's done and the truck gets there or the I don't die in a plane crash or my little UPS shit is delivered on time."

My thoughts exactly.

Although in all actuality the people responsible for his suspension probably don't care either, they just have to, from their perspective, do something to make it appear they care to save face for the company.

It's basically the same situation with the Duck Dynasty redneck and A&E. Their initial response was to kick the guy off their network due to his comments about gays and blacks, but then when they saw the backlash from rednecks who agree with him and support the show was bigger than the people who were annoyed by his comments, they immediately did a 180 and rehired him.

At the end of the day these huge companies are entirely amoral; they're in the interest of what's going to keep the bottom line numbers the highest, and if that means pretending to be for A or against B that's what they're going to do.

TV's a little different though. Like, I lost a lot of respect for Jonah Hill when he got angry at a Paparazzo and called him a "faggot." He immediately apologized and I guess now everything's cool, and he seems like a genuinely cool guy but I'll forever associate his homophobic outburst with the face. If you've ever worked as a line cook the R word and the F word come out a bunch, which are pretty much the only two pejoratives that I hate hate hate. But if the food's good I'll still eat it I guess because I don't have to meet the person who cooked my food just like I don't have to meet the pilot (pretty sure they don't let you do that anymore anyway) and find out that my food or flight was cooked or flown by a faceless asshole the way I'd have to look at the Duck Dynasty guy if I watched it..

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2015-03-01
I forgive Jonah Hill because he was being harassed by some papparazi who basically told him his sister and mother were whores and going off about his family. I think that guy is lucky to have his teeth still. He was obviously trying to bait Jonah and that isn't cool and it isn't part of the job. Just take a fucking photo and ask him about his movie and go home, you hack.

This, though, this was a genuine bro moment. You don't get any more bro.

His endeavors will fly through history now...past the heavens and beyond.

You do realize that people are capable of using the word "faggot" in a non-sexual context, right? It started from using the term out of ignorance or prejudice, but has mutated over the last few decades to simply be synonymous with "idiot".

No offense but you'd have to be some kind of retarded faggot not to understand some people use the Louis C.K. definition, and some people use the Rush Limbaugh definition. If you think Jonah was going Limbaugh rather than Louis, I feel kinda sorry for you.

oddeye - 2015-03-02
it's still not an ok word to use because it's difficult to seperate from the homophobic context.

What's the R word?

spikestoyiu - 2015-03-02

Shoebox Joe - 2015-03-02
Oh jesus. I really didn't expect anyone on here to defend the use of the word faggot with Louis C.K.'s trolling. Don't you realize that homophobes believe any limp wristed faggot is an idiot with sexual preference?

Seriously; hook, line and sinker you emotionally inbred fuck.

P.S. I was going to use "nigger" in place of "fuck" to reference George Carlin, but I didn't want anyone to think you could use "nigger" in place of "black"

Shoebox Joe - 2015-03-02
And just so we're god damn fucking clear.

WITH. As in "and" tense and not a "use" tense.

As in "idiot with a sexual preference?"

Where's my pony. >:(

But not nearly as good as doing the whole Willy Wonka "there's no earthly way of knowing" bit.

The Mothership - 2015-08-07
I like how one pilot listening in suggest that another pilot was the one talking, and that guy was all like 'fuck you, that was not me!".
