This movie is a giant vanity film for a man named Daniel Sedak. Daniel is a third-grade dropout from Lebanon and, after working in a BMW dealership, he saw a lot of mortgage agents coming in to buy cars, so he decided to jump into that market. Eventually, he started a subprime mortgage firm called "Quick Loan Funding," and was one of the least scrupulous subprime lenders around, to the point that he was allegedly making million a month at one point.

He had a large sport car collection and a trophy girlfriend/soap actress hoping to break into film named Nadia Bjorlin. He decided to make a vanity film for both called Redline, which he also wrote. The film is one of the most ludicrous blockbuster goulashes I've ever seen and was a colossal disaster both at the box office and critically (currently holding down a flat zero at Rotten Tomates).

Sedak borrowed heavily against the planned success of the film. He wound up losing the cars and the girlfriend he made the film for. However, he was also one of the worst culprits in the subprime lending crisis, so it would be unfair to say he lost the things he made the movie for because of the movie, but it's more fun to say that's what happened, so that's what happened.

Daniel Sedak also looks like a massive douche.

SolRo - 2015-03-07

unfortunately shares name with a really great anime movie.

I imagine that is the main reason this stupid thing is still pops up in search results.

Adham Nu'man - 2015-03-07

This looks stupid and all but from the trailer I can't tell the difference between this and a Fast and the Furious film (except that it's missing Vin Diesel).

oddeye - 2015-03-07

The difference is one is fucking shit and the other is fucking shit. Fucking SHIT.

I saw this in the theatre. But in my defense, it was free because I worked at one of the sister cinemas and I forgot my partner at the time had a work meeting and had to stay late. Basically I just needed a place to loiter and sleep for a couple of hours and stay warm. So I watched it with headphones on listening to music, trying to catch some zzzs or something but turned out paying attention to it. I was listening to The Liars " Drums Not Dead" over and over and with that context it was kinda ok..

there's no defense to seeing this movie willingly

EvilHomer - 2015-03-07

Hey IZ! Or oddeye, or anyone else for that matter. Totally unrelated to this video, but there's a Lars Andersen video in the hopper that's got six votes, and needs one more. It's at the very bottom of the page and about to get deleted any minute now, so one vote would be much appreciated!

It was either that movie or hang out in the nearby mall for 3 hours, or just sit outside and freeze to death. And I have a near-fight-or-flight reaction to malls and I kinda like being alive.. but yeah, looking back, I probably should've stayed outside #emotions #heyisawredlineinthetheatre #freezetodeath

Sorry EH, didn't see your post but it looks like it's on the front page now anyway.. I always thought you had front page privileges. Seems like a lot of the Nick Bravo vids appear on the front page really quickly and I check the hopper frequently. Then again, it IS Nick Bravo. I used to have a friend named Lars Andersen. Even in high school he could grow this really long beard and seemed like he belonged in medieval times, was really into D&D etc. Doubtful it's the same guy (Lars Anderson is the Scandinavian equivalent to John Smith) but it'd be cool if it was.

infinite zest - 2015-03-07

Oh NM, it's THAT Lars Anderson. Definitely not the same guy. I was thinking it was a Lindybeige video or something.

I saw this in the theater, but it was free, because I had wandered in after crusting off an entire bottle of ketamine straight out the popcorn popper, snacking on delicious k-chips mixed with M&Ms. As it turned out, I wasn't the only one in the theater: a vast orgy was simultaneously taking place. Men and women of various ages, races and genders, going at it in a maddening free for all of flesh. As I slowly succombed to the koma, I saw what I believed to be a Chinaman in a rice paddy hat, passing around a flute, I recognized him: his name was "Singapore Sam", and I knew he was the man who had killed my brother. Struggling against the rapidly increasing hold of sweet ketamine bliss, I lumbered toward him, and grabbed the tookie in his hand, and while I watched in slow motion, I pounded it down his throat, until he choked blood.

As the film came to an end, the opening credits to "Star Wars: Episode II: Attack of the Clones" scrolled up. Sodden with blood, the caramel sweet incense of opium dense in my nostrils, experiencing phantasms of delight with each passing heartbeat, the frantic sexual peak of the crowd reached it's inevitable climax. They slowly flopped to a halt, as did I. It was there and then that I discovered that the darkest secrets of the American West lie behind the closed, dimly lit doors of b-cinema.

They should have stopped making racing movies after Cannonball Run.

Mother_Puncher - 2015-03-07

Did they blow their budget on Eddie Griffin?

sasazuka - 2015-03-07

Never saw it but the one notable thing about this movie is that Eddie Griffin damaged a very expensive Enzo Ferrari (yeah, if you're "in the know" about Ferrari, the Enzo comes first) at some sort of promotional event.

The Enzo is in the supercar tier of Ferrari (along with the 288 GTO, the F40, the F50, and the current LaFerrari). It cost ~0K new and trades for over a million at auction

I'm not sure if the cost of fixing that Enzo is more than REDLINE actually earned at the box office.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2015-03-07

This looks pretty good for an 80s movie.
