This was one of the most disappointing movies I've ever seen, but maybe I need to rewatch it. Last time I saw it I was 15 and I was hoping for either Performance or Lisztomania, and what I got was closer to Skidoo but with really bad music and no humor, intentional or otherwise.

It really is kind of a mess, though I thought Yul Brynner's cameo was funny.

I liked it, but I think my favorite Bond movie is McGrath's Casino Royale, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. McGrath and Sellers made a great team.

And who can forget Digby: THE BIGGEST DOG IN THE WORLD. I had to look it up. Didn't know he directed that.

I think it was the one two punch of Peter Sellers and the hyped but completely underwhelming "people swimming for money through blood and manure" scene that really annoyed me. It wasn't that it was a mess (I like a mess), it was that it was that it was so tame (even for the time) for something that thought it was being bold and transgressive. Also it was really dumb and thought it was really smart, but not in the spectacular way that something like Mindwalk is, just in a boring way. I would probably like it more now.

The music is pretty crap from what I remember, though.

I found it to be disappointingly fragmented and uneven. The galley scene is bizarre and surreal, the "Black and White" number is hilarious, the Yul Brynner thing is amazing.

And then we have scenes like John Cleese/art, dog shampoo, paying for a frankfurter, and so many others which don't help the overall mess add up to an actual movie.
