There are so many videos of this stuff on Youtube, and it's all amazing. The Ganesha festival in Lalbaug looks amazing, ten days of this stuff.

This isn't even the best video, I chose it because the keyboard sound is so good around 1:00.

I actually like the recording quality on a lot of them, and it's definitely got me thinking again about playing guitar through old-style horn speakers when I start playing shows again later this year. Such a great sound.

I don't get the joke. Is it a joke about the American stereotype of Indians (leaving aside that "Indian" is what, 300 different distinct ethnic groups) dress in a stereotypically gay manner? Is it because this is a genre that's closely a associated with one of the biggest Hindu festivals in the country, so there are a lot of people there which statistically means a lot of gay men? Is it about cultural attitudes about homosexuality in Mumbai (I don't know much about that at all, I'm not trying to be obtuse)?

I'm being completely serious here, I don't understand your joke at all and want to know. Since I don't have any context for the religious aspect of this, it just looks like a pretty good show, replace the keyboard with guitars and it would be like a lot of the most fun shows I've been to.

I only recently learned about this specific style, I don't know how old it is. The oldest videos I'm seeing are 2013 but the vast majority are from last year's Ganesha festival in Lalbaug, so I think it might be a pretty recent development. I really want to start a band that ays a bastardized, white boy space rock version of it. I mean, I've already kind of had one or two of those over the years but this makes me want to step it up a few notches with regard to how many drummers there are, and to be more of a hardass about playing some pounding 6/8 beats instead of tired ersatz motorik.

I've been trying to put together songs that this same line of thought too. Kind of a "heavy metal drum circle."
