Suggesting a "better vampires" week since it apparently was already an active tag.

The less the audience has to suspend disbelief, the more effective a horror movie is, which is what makes this movie so good. It's also what makes Dawn of the Dead so good. George Romero used to be really good at taking old horror movie cliches and giving them an air of plausibility.
This and Knightriders are seriously impressive movies. it's too bad Romero latched on so tightly to the whole zombie thing and never really made another movie outside the generic horror norm because I get the feeling he was once a pretty tight filmmaker that may have gone a bit further, artistically.
