Nor could I. But I'll hazzard a guess based on experience. Attractive people have no problem getting laid, but often have great difficulty finding a long term relationship because, let's face it, it's hard to be with someone who's getting constant offers of sex.

Conversely, less attractive people have some difficulty getting laid but when they do, it's more likely to result in a long term relationship because there is usually a lot more drawing the two people together than a boner.

So she spends a great deal of her time making herself appealling to the boys at the mall, but can't seem to manage more than a one night stand. Hence these complaints.

I think we're making a great deal of assumptions here. What we need is more context.

I'm guessing the explanation is much simpler: The friend is unattractive, however you want to qualify that (over weight, but cute/pretty; plain, but dresses well/is fashionably 'hot', octomom voice etc.), such that men will fuck but not settle down with the friend. Those who tell the friend 'just friends' want neither to fuck nor settle down so they tell her the friendship is not something they want to ruin.
