I can't help but imagine Adam Sandler's "Bartleby". I have this image of Adam Sandler in a law office, reclining in a big chair, giggling and prattling as he eats a bowl of cereal. Lots of wacky hijinks and physical humor as they try to get rid of him.

They forced us to watch this in high school. It was a small part of what sucked the joy out of my soul but still t was part of that.
They take a Melville story that raises interesting questions about one's responsibilities to one's fellow man, pay actors and production teams to film the thing so you don't have to go to the trouble of reading the story, and then they made you WATCH it! Oh how you suffer.
Oh don't be such a jackass. I said "high school." That means that it was presented with absolutely no context or discussion -- just "watch this while I take a nap, everyone."

I thought that was really good. I liked the no-fucking-about pacing and direction. I could imagine another (crappier) director drawing this out to 90 mins.
