Yeah.. my dad was the same way. He reluctantly went along with me to movies based on cartoons I liked in the 90s, but I couldn't get him to sit down and watch them on TV. He got me a VHS set of Rocky & Bullwinkle for my birthday and I sort of understood why. Only a few years later, they'd start turning R&B into shit movies, like George of the Jungle, Dudley Do Right, etc. and my dad and I were so excited. We were both disappointed.
My dad got to know the kid who was like second in line to be Dennis The Menace (basically the first pick), but opted out because he didn't want to be away from his family and friends, back before child star syndrome was diagnosable. I think he's still practicing law.
I have a love/hate relationship with Rocky & Bullwinkle.
I love the cartoon, but in my mind, it's always associated with having to get up and get ready to go to school. Whenever I see anything associated with Rocky & Bullwinkle ("Fractured Fairy Tales", "Aesop & Son", "Peabody's Improbable History", etc.) I feel mildly stressed like I need to brace myself to get up and do something unpleasant.
Yeah I had a cool social studies teacher in middle school who would show us these on Friday, given that we were good throughout the week. Yet I still have recurring nightmares about not studying for that class and the test is today. That's what I get for calling her Mrs. Dildo.
My love for Rocky and Bullwinkle, beyond the nostalgia, is based on my respect for the creators refusing to reuse footage from a prior episode and rather reanimate the whole thing.
