I was talking to Cognitivedissonance about the Hotmail Miami soundtrack, the equal soundtrack of which features a lot of Megadrive.

I love this coke fueled murder music.

infinite zest - 2015-05-03

I haven't checked my hotmail miami in years.

Old_Zircon - 2015-05-03

I've been replaying it, it holds up.

infinite zest - 2015-05-03

It kind of looks like those top down levels from Super Contra that you tried to get through as quickly as possible to me to get back to the normal side scrolling missions.

Aelric - 2015-05-03

It's twichy sequential trial and error madness. It's a polarizing game to be sure, folks love it or can't stand is a moment, but the soundtrack is fucking awesome. Also, yeah, I totally fucked up the name there. It's hotLINE Miami.

Pass on the sequal. Also good music, but it deludes what made the first game good.

Old_Zircon - 2015-05-03

Yeah, I got the sequel before I read the reviews but I never actually played it because I upgraded my laptop and Goat Simulator started to get decent FPS (I pretty much don't have anthing with anywhere near modern graphics acceleration here - the serious computer has about the cheapest used graphics card I could get that's compatible with my Aja capture card - so pretty much any demanding game newer than 2011 is a stretch).

Aelric - 2015-05-03

You can get the original game for a song, it's worth it just to try.

infinite zest - 2015-05-04

Yeah the music's fantastic. It's like, even if you didn't like Drive, you gotta admit that the soundtrack was great. So this is Drive if it was a game.. ok now it's pretty cool.

EvilHomer - 2015-05-03

I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. So I decided to stop being with what I'm with, because what's the point in sticking around, right? Except now they've brought what I was with BACK, and I'm not with it anymore. It seems weird and scary to me.

Everybody knows rock and roll attained perfection in 1974. It's a scientific fact.

Old_Zircon - 2015-05-03

I'd say 71 or early 72.

EvilHomer - 2015-05-03

Rock and roll attained perfection in 1959. Then everyone went on sabbatical until 1990 and the release of 'Scumdogs of the Universe'.

infinite zest - 2015-05-04

hehe. That was just a Homer Simpson quote. Music really reached its eschaton with A Drug Against War.

Old_Zircon - 2015-05-03

Megadrive's pretty good.

Old_Zircon - 2015-05-03

That said, synthwave/newretrowave/whatever does get dangerously close to Brian Setzer revivalism territory a lot of the time.

infinite zest - 2015-05-03

Yeah, that revival's pretty much in full swing now.. maybe swing and synthwave could get along. It could sound like the soundtrack to The Mask for SNES.

Old_Zircon - 2015-05-03

I just mean there's a lot of "slavishly follow the formula of the original style without bringing anything new to the table" type stuff popping up since it really blew up; a synthwave/swing crossover could be amazing. Or terrible. Maybe both. It might sound like New Jack Swing performed by a Neo Geo. I'm fine with that.

Old_Zircon - 2015-05-03

Neo Jack Swing
New Geo Swing

Gypsy_Dildo_Factory - 2015-05-05

"Synthwave" OK I didn't know what to call it. But Lazerhawk, Dynatron, Dances with Dead and so on. I found many names from 2 channels on youtube last September and they are the only new music I play. I mean I listen to this sh*t while doing my morning stretching and warming routine which is interpretive, before going off to work out in the ass-mines. I've lost 17 kilos since I started listening to it!
